If i have a cd player only (stock) with the little bin/door right under it, i thought i didn't need a instalation kit. Just the wire plugs. So why does this place that i'm probably going to buy from tell me i need it when i put my car data into it?

Some celicas had double din cd/tape players. They will need the kit to fill the hole left by using a single din reciever.

since you have the bin w/the door you will only need a wiring harness. The new HU can be installed directly into the existing housing without an installation kit.

check this thread for a complete how-to for installing a HU in a 6G (download the pdf document)

it's relativly easy to install in these cars.

if i am understanding this right, your car has a tape deck on top and cd player or soemthing underneath it? If this is true, it is what I had, and i bought an aftermarket alpine HU, only needed the wire harnesses (from circuit city). i still have my stock cd player underneath my HU, because i do not want an open hole in my dash, but I am looking to replace the CD player with a switch panel for my neon lights and such. i believe that you can buy a plastic piece that will replace the bottom item, but like i said, i jsut elft in my cd player...a lot easier and it doesnt look that bad

The short answer to your question is no, you do not need a dash kit. You will just need a wiring harness.

For decoration? Or to actually function as a tape deck alongside an aftermarket hu?

If just decoration, then yeah, you can switch it so that the tape deck is on top and the cd player is on bottom, or vice versa. They have the same mouting holes. I have my deck in the bottom panel and I have my pocket on top.

If you want to have a tape deck as well as the aftermarket cd player, you are better off getting a double din aftermarket cd player that has both.
