Is our celica's steering supose to be harder than ordinary cars or am i having a power steering pump problem?

I find the steering is much much harder in my celica than in my corolla.

Fluids are within acceptable levels and i have no belt squeek. Should i flush and fill?

any help would be apreciated wink.gif

Thanks

yea the celica has more stiff steering.

I remember reading a reviews about the celica when it first introduced. The reviewers mentioned the steering ratio was small and a flick of the wrist is enough to make a turn.

i think it a number of things that makes the steering more tough. it's a combination of steering gear ratio and fat tires.

Scenario 1: I'm driving my friends 94' Accord. I bump my finger (one finger) at the wheel and the car turns alot.

Scenario 2: I'm driving my fathers 97' Carina E station wagon and the steering seems normal.

Scenario 3: I'm driving my own car (the Celi) and the steering is hard as hell compared to those other cars, but this is normal. Sports cars have heavier steering.

My Celi has hard steering also and it needs a big circle to turn. But handles superb. I was suicidal one day (not literally) so I was doing 70- 80 on the twisties by where I live in P.R. while it was raining. Let me tell you, I was surprised by how the Nitto Extremes behaved. I only lost a bit of control turning a hard left after a hard right while boosting...but the tires never lost traction. I love how the Celica handles. smile.gif

I think it laso has a lot to do with the rally car heritage, the Celica is a little more than 2 turns lock to lock, I don't know what the GT-Four is but the Evo is 2 turns lock to lock where as the other Lancers ES/LS/OZ/RalliArt are 2 3/4. It is suppose to give better control for precise steering since there is a lot of sliding and cornering involved.

Also I don't know if the Corolla has this but the Celica has speed sensitive steering, the faster you go the harder it is to turn the wheel.
