almost identical to the camry/solara 4-cyl... it also drives like one too... not exactly a celica in terms of driving dynamics, but a good deal nontheless...

IMO the base model can look bland in the wrong color and stock wheels. As far as motor it uses the 160 hp 2AZ-FE from the Camry which has enough a** to beat an IS from a roll so the extra 40 hp from the supercharger can put it into the SRT-4 range. Right now the SC isn't on the options list, so maybe for '06.
BTW since this is a Scion question, isn't the xA a rebadged Vitz?

Nice cars, seen a lot of older women (moms?) driving them too, guess their value appeals to everyone. I can see this car becoming the next civic though.

what's so funny?

Anyway... the xA isn't the vitz. It's actually sold as the Toyota Ist elsewhere. As for the tC... looks cool, with a supercharger or turbo, would be great... but as far as I'm concerned, Toyota got bloody lazy by simply throwing in an exsisting econobox motor... like they always do. I really wish is could have been an oversized ZZGE, or even a AZGE with VVTLi or something.

Speaking of the Lexus IS, the tC is nearly as quick as its 215-hp luxury cousin. The sporty Scion scoots from 0 to 60 in 7.4 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 15.7 seconds at 88 mph, only 0.1 and 0.2 second, respectively, behind the IS ("$35,000 Sports Sedans," March 2004). Moreover, because the tC is geared fairly short—final drive is 4.24—its 30-to-50-mph top-gear time of 8.5 seconds is a 10th quicker than the six-cylinder IS's. Talk about "hardly shabby." Against its natural rivals, the tC is equally competitive. To 60, it is quicker than the Civic Si (8.0) and the Mini Cooper (8.3). It's even with the Mazda 3 s and just 0.4 slower than the supercharged Cooper S, which is the only one of the group to outgun the tC to the quarter-mile, nipping it by 0.2 second. And remember, the blown Mini starts at $20,449. - C & D

Well of course it's only a tenth faster from a roll but were talking a $15,000 difference here. As you see it wasn't my opinion.

I knew it was rebadged and I think the Vitz has the same motor as the Echo, so I figured they were the same, plus I heard talk about Toyota bringing the Vitz here.

tC doesn't stand for Toyota Celica, It stands for touring coupe.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?se...3&page_number=1

"Why not xC, you ask? Well, Volvo has the rights to that with its XC90. The tC stands for Touring Coupe. And the name Scion, what does that mean? According to the trusty Merriam-Webster online dictionary, a scion is a descendant. This is logical, for Scion is Toyota's. Toyota understands that Gen Y buyers have different priorities, and that the cars should be designed to meet them."

Yeah Cutrara is right, I remember arguing with someone here about the tC being the replacement for the Celica, they said find one article that states it, took 2 mins to find the R&T article and it's in the first sentance I believe. It is ironic it's tC though.

you guys need to stop calling the tC the "Toyota Celica" it's just a coincedence. The Celica isn't dead. It's just dead on American shores. I'd expect to see a nice eigth gen come out soon with some performance options in Japan.

It's far fetched but the tC stands a better chance of being rebadged a Celica in Japan than a new model being built.

I disagree- they have to worry about the european market as well, and the car is not on par in terms of driving dynamics compared to a nimble mini cooper...
