You know, I've never understood why manufacturers insist on sticking desktop chips in laptops.
Nothing wrong with a P4, but it runs very hot, and chews through batteries like a bad car alarm. The Pentium M exists for a reason (and is, paradoxically, a significiantly superior chip design wise). Oh yes, cost. That'll be it. -------------------- JDM ST205

im not a big fan of intel, AMD is the way to go, but the laptop still sounds pretty nice. I still love my PC tho, AMD 64 +3800, 3x 250 gig harddrives, 4 gigs of rams, nForce 4 motherboard, Geforce 6800 Ultra PCI-E. Lets just say it can handle anything you throw at it.

I also litke amd better, cheaper and just as or more powerful. I am looking to buy one some time soon, but not sure what i want. I was thinking of getting basicaly what you have but in the "hp" form. Just because i need somthing that will do autocad no problem.. and i dont want to upgrade to soon. An im not sure that a turion and its G card will handle it. Very nice. want to lend me some money to buy one? ![]() |

I know about 5 ppl with their laptops and I have one myself. I haven't had any trouble out of mine besides the powersupply going out, one person I know has sent theirs back 5 time so far in under a year, another had theirs replaced because it was sent back to many times in under a year. So I would say 3 out of the 6 ppl with hp's I know have gotten good ones, the others wish they never bought hp. Also its not like we don't know what we are doing we are all IT professionals. The p4 will be ok just don't set it on your lap. AMD vs. Intel, Intel wins everytime they are faster than amd. Somewhere on the net is a info where they actually did runtime tests and p4 had better performance. I have an amd and a p4 and my p4 2.4 ghz is almost as fast as my amd 3400+ with more ram and better video card. |

well the one on top is my old hp which i bought 4 years ago (p3 1.3 ghz, 15" screen 512 ram 40GB hd @ $2000) and it has literally been powered on since then. no problems cept the now dead battery, but hey what do u expect after 4 years, lol. the screen is perfect, no dead pixels after all this time, and it loads xp pro in exactly 1 minute.
![]() the only reason why i went with compaq and not another hp is because the design of their newest notebooks. when u close the screen of the compaq, it is flush all the way around. but when u close the lid of the hp, the bottom half sticks out. the reason why i didnt want the other manufacturers was the lightscribe dvd burner. even tho it burns a crappy monotone label on the disc, the other brands dont have it. i was looking at alienware tho....mmmm, hehe. with the glowing eyes on the lid -------------------- ![]() |

Also with Hp's.. I have heard more problems with them compared to toshiba.. I might loo at getting one of those.. but they dont offer exactly what i want.. ![]() |

I dont really like HP or compaq *sorry no offence guys just tryna share my opinion for thoes buying now* They are the same company at this point they merged a bit more then a year ago. They are great laptops for the price... but the systems have alot of hardware issues, especialy the bigger HP laptops have a sturdy powercable that breaks out the ac port.

Nice computer bro!
I also just got a new laptop about 2-3 weeks ago. (Also a Compaq) Best Buy was running a special on it, and after rebates, it was only $699. Inexpensive, yes. Powerful for the price, yes. I opted for size, rather than blazing speed. The last laptop i had was over 8lbs. The other laptop i was looking at(besides the one i got) was an HP, P4, 3ghz, 15" widescreen, etc etc etc. Boss machine, but 9lbs. Pics: ![]() ![]() Compaq Presario V2000 14" widescreen UltraBright Display 1.6ghz AMD Turion 64 processor 512mb RAM, expanded to 768mb. 60gig HD 128mb video card 5.5lbs. <3. Also seen in the pics: 20gig external from my old HP. Bought an enclosure off eBay for 12 bucks. ![]() Those are the main specs. For those who don't like HP/Compaq, do you have a reason other than hear-say? Before this laptop, i had an HP Pavilion which lasted me about 5 good years before i destroyed it with downloads, overclocking, and other user-related detriments. I've never heard of anyone that i know having a problem with this company. I realize there better rated systems out there, but I personally have never had a problem. For what i do(AutoCad, VIZ, Inventor, etc..very 3d/video taxing), this system is quite cherry. ![]() -John- -------------------- |

We see what breaks and what doesnt. Its from how many come in with stupid overheating problems from just bad manufacturing that makes me dislike them. Thinkpads never have thoes problems, and the latitudes for the most part dont either. |

But it lasted 5 years almost, like I said. And don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying no one has room to talk, I was just curious. ![]() -------------------- |

Yeah. Just 4 1/2 years in a computer repair shop gives you pretty strong impressions on brands. Ive seen a slew of hp's that had a problem with their cooling tubes that dried up and they all overheated for a while. Whole laptop had to be taken apart down to the motherboard to replace the heatpipes. Since compaq and hp are the same person now... I would get one too if I where really strapped for cash and needed a laptop though dont get me wrong
