Ok, So today I got my Brembo Rotors that I bought off of ebay and tried to swap it with my other rotors on my Celica. Well these rotors were for the GT and my car is an ST. I can't seem to fit these onton my Celica. Now, do the GT's have different types of breaking system on the front as well such as bigger breaks? I thought they were the same type of breaks with the rear as a difference?

The front rotors on the GT are bigger than on the ST. And the front calipers on the GT are different than on the ST. Supposedly you can just bolt the GT caliper and caliper bracket onto the ST hub and then use the GT rotors. But I'm not so sure...I read and read and read about my brake upgrades and found out that nearly everything I'd read was wrong.

EDIT: I know for a fact that single pot st185 calipers work
I'm not sure if dual pots will work though, they might be a little different. Not sure. I'm runningsingle pot calipers and rotors from my RC clip. DEF -------------------- ![]() I will return one day. |

Did you swap the whole hub Jeff? Or are you still using the ST hub?

Its something to check into. I'm not sure if the st185 rotors are the same size as the GT rotors.
Good Luck DEF -------------------- ![]() I will return one day. |

on a side note, I was wondering if 5th gen GTS rear swap would work on my car.
I found one I can strip. DEF -------------------- ![]() I will return one day. |

DEF From my understanding now, it would only if you swap the whole hub. The fifth gen rotors do not fit on the sixth gen hub...they only go partially on, then the rotors crack once you tighten the lugs. I learned that one the hard way. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

I see.
Well I guess I'll find out soon enough. I get the whole rear and try the swap. -------------------- ![]() I will return one day. |

PUNCH ME SOMEONE!!! The rotors for the GT are much bigger than the ST!!
The GT brembo rotors will fit right in, but the calipers on the ST will not work, because it is smaller then the GT's. NOTE(maybe someone should change that in the information section of "difference in GT and ST") Oh and the Rotors on the GT are also a lot bigger then the ST. This brings me to conclude that ST models are really the $hit models after all, but oh well I like my ST and wouldn't trade it for any other car (even tho its not working)..... I gonna go and try to get some calipers off a GT and see if that works. |

You'll need the calipers and caliper brackets, as Coomer said. I have GT brakes on my ST and had to buy everything piecemeal, like you.

ST Hubs. One other item that some people might care about; I am not running any dust covers, but GT ones should work if someone wants to buy those.

So you guys are saying that GT calipers and brackest are all i need to get my rotors running? Do i have to get new brake lines, or anything like that at all (eg. nuts, bolts)? Do they actually bolt right on as well?

The ST lines are the same (for the front axle). What I bought from Toyota were the caliper brackets and a set of clips that hold the pads in, as I already had GT calipers and pads. Didn't need any extra hardware. One final thing I should mention; you will not beable to use the ST dust covers with the GT setup - they are too small. Not a big deal to me, but maybe something you could find at a junkyard.

From everything I've read and personally experienced, swapping brake parts within a generation (e.g. sixth-gen GT to sixth-gen ST) allows you to use just the brake parts, and you don't have to install a different knuckle or hub.
For clarification: knuckle, aka axle carrier, is the very large solid chunk of metal that bolts to the strut, the suspension arms and the strut rod. The hub is the collective name for the bearing setup on which the rotor and wheel turn. The hub bolts to the knuckle and holds on the backing plate (rear) or dust cover (front). Across generations, however, the centre bore is different -- at least between fifth-gen and sixth-gen. As a result, you need the hub from the same generation as the brakes you're using. Question for you Coomer: when you swapped the fifth-gen parts onto your car, was there any issues with the backing plate fitting onto the knuckle on the rears? It's clear there was a problem between the fifth-gen rotors and your sixth-gen hubs, where I'm wondering is the unmoving shaft projecting out of the knuckle.
