QUOTE(forkee @ Sep 9, 2005 - 2:26 AM) QUOTE(Mynzeyes @ Sep 8, 2005 - 10:28 PM) "86" is most commonly referred to in the food/service industry. it means you are out of something. at red lobster, we have an "86 board" that we write items on if we're out. beit tilapia, bud light, or whatever. yea we used it alot at my restuarant too 86 is also used in restaurants when putting in an order to the kitchen like "I need a burger 86 tomatoes" things like that. The restaurant I work at now doesn't, but one I used to did so it's hit or miss. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

QUOTE(Mynzeyes @ Sep 8, 2005 - 11:28 PM) "86" is most commonly referred to in the food/service industry. it means you are out of something. at red lobster, we have an "86 board" that we write items on if we're out. beit tilapia, bud light, or whatever. however, being "86-d" has so many different meanings. running out of a product, being kicked out of a bar, killing yourself or someone else. anything that could mean that you don't have something, or something has come to an end, or something is just gone in general.. there are many different theorized origins. the one i'm most farmiliar with is from an old penny candy store back in the day(which was a wednesday, btw). anyway, there was a particular candy that was very popular, and they would always run out. well, the candy was the 86th item on the inventory list. therefore, if something ran out, it was deemed "86'd". also, 86 refers to article 86 of the New York State Liquor laws that define when someone should not, legally, be served in places that sell alcoholic beverages... then there are other theories, such as a grave being 8 feet long, and 6 feet deep. therefore in dying, you're "86'd". also, the observation deck on the empire state building is on the 86th floor. people who jumped off (suicide) were "86'd". one of the ones from a bar was that back in the day(again, a wednesday) when men were drinking 100proof whiskey, the "ladies drinks" were only 86proof. if a man became too unruley, he was given a ladies drink, and made fun of and ridiculed. he was "86'd". anyway, there's the history lesson, and my stupid random knowledge. all i know is, we are 86 bud light draft a lot... ![]() ![]() -John- interesting, i used to work at lonestar and i never knew how 86 got started. ya we were 86'd bud light draft a lot too ![]() -------------------- ![]() I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. |
