Well, I broke a mount again. I don't know how I'm doing this. It's the right one again. The one closest to the firewall. That one is such a pain to change too. My question is, does anyone have a guide to making urithane mounts? Or would that really help? Or should I just put a stock one back on and ease up on the driving?

Well, I haven't looked at them yet, but it sounds like a mount is bad. I've checked the front and sides. The only one I can't check is the mount closest to the firewall. What the car is doing is when I take off from a stop, I can here a louder popping sound. It also does this when I put it in reverse and take off. If I feather the throtle, which I've only done once as an experiment, and allow the car to jump as if a bad shift, you can here this "pop pop pop pop" with every jerk of the car. I don't see what else it could be other than mounts. I guess it could be axles, but I figured they would have broke by now if they sounded that bad, and besides that, they are new.

here is an easy way to check how your mounts are. pop the hood open and start the car. put the ebrake on and and put the car in 1st gear. watch the motor while you slowly let off the clutch. then do then same thing in reverse gear. if the motor shakes a lot then you have a mount problem.

those mounts are all rubber. they can get softer over time, but i dont think they would make a poping sound. i would inspect the axels too. they are known to make noise when they are starting to break.

the motor mounts on my car are totally shot. if i just let the clutch out the whole front end of the car and the motor shakes like crazy and the car just wants to stall out.

What I figured was the ruber broke, and the metal pin in the midle was hitting the metal on the outside of the mount. I really hope it's not my axles again, this will be the 3rd set I've put on this thing. That's just rediculas. But, so is replacing the mount again. Mounts are cheaper and easier though.

if you broke the rubber in the mount, then you would notice your motor shaking a lot in your engine bay. my mounts are really back, but they dont make noise. you just know the motor shakes way too much when starting out in 1st gear.

If I can get anyone to help me with it, I'll try that. My girlfriend doesn't know, and won't drive or even move my car to help me see if it's doing much. And I don't know any car people were I'm at, and all my friends are so retarded about cars they wouldn't have a clue what to do. I might be able to get this one to help me. This site is pretty much my only sorce of car help sence I left home.

On a side note, I really wish I was in a car club or had some car buddies around here. Thanks for your help lagos. I'll have to check this thing more clearly.

you dont really need an extra person to check the motor shaking... just pop the hood, you can kind of see the motor from the drivers seat if you look at the gap between the hood and the bottom windshield. thats how i checked mine smile.gif

to check the axels, just jack up the car a little and look for any signs of grease around the axel boots

I check it all, and it turns out it is the mount. So here's my question again, anyone know how to make urithane mounts, and is this the best idea to keep this thing from breaking?

lagos: did the new motor mounts fix that alignment problem you had?

Bigmeanbulldog55 :
you do know urithane mounts will make engine noise in the cabin of the car substantially louder? the stock mounts should last the life time of the car. Another symptom of a bad mount is when you shift quickly in first or second gear. It would make a loud thunk everytime you shift.
Does it make this poping sound when your already in gear and pushing the car hard? Does this poping sound happen when your in second gear?

It sounds like a bad diferental to me. It happened in my friends mini-van. When he floored the car in first gear. The van will pull forward and make a poping sound. Everytime you hear a pop sound, the van will jerk. So does your car only make this pop sound under hard acceleration?

It's just the one mount that I'm switching to urithane. I might switch the left one some day if it breaks, but I don't think I'll have too much of a problem with noise. If I do, I'll just go get the regular mount. I still want to do this just because it's cheaper, and it'll be a nice learning experiance. And I got under the car and checked out all the mounts. It really is brokin. I don't know what the engine is smacking on, it kind of worries me, which is why I'm fixing this ASAP. I guess I could have other problems which cause the pop/thud noise, and inturn broke the mount. Like a bad differental. But if that's the chase, I'll replace that after I fix this mount. I've got a spare tranny setting at home. Thanks for all the help everybody.

I went out and bought the urithane today. I'll do the work tomorrow after I get out of the lab. I'll let everyone know how it went. Maybe some pictures if I can get ahold of a cammera.

Getting the air bubbles out of this is a little difficult. It's looking good though.
