OMG RESONATOR matters. No **** sherlock. For that matter, Pipe diameter ALSO matters.

I can in fact, make a concrete factual statement based on how many mufflers one has.

If the system is the same (however, you'd need to figure out what's the "same" pipe diameter), but there is more room for noise to escape (more muffers) you're going to be louder.

However, I cannot profess to be able to explain this with an equation, because the one equation I can find (for sound coming from a sphere) disputes it.
