Has anyone heard about the jobs in alaska? Its all mostly fishing related, but I like that part anyway. Anyways, they pay really good around 10-20K a month for a fish catching related job minus room and board. I was thinking that I might go there to work and pay off my school debt by working for a year. Then when I come back I can still have around 40K to spend on school and my car. its a 50-50 chance I might actually go there and work.
Yah I know its non-stop working 24/7, but chicken farming at where I am is the same and we hardly make any money. Only around 9K a month-expenses. any comments? ![]() |

its pretty up there. plus its either sunlight for 20 hours, or nighttime for 20 hours, depending on the season. $9,000/month expenses?? thats crazy. my expenses in a month is like 1 grand at the most.

Do they fish year round?
I drove around Alaska in an RV for a couple weeks. Some places are better than others. By Southern California standards it wasn't very expensive. -------------------- ![]() |

i was watching this one documentary that listed the "ten most dangerous jobs" in the world.
Alaskan King Crab fishing was the #1 most dangerous job. yes, even more dangerous than a reporter getting shot at in the middle of a gun fight in war! anyways, you guys should've seen it! the waves were incredibly rough, the chopper filming the scene had so much trouble keeping the camera steady, and the fishermen guys were sliding all over the place hitting the walls and getting hit by ice cold waves! anyway, as harsh as it sounds, in the end they say that each fisherman earns anywhere between $300,000 to $1,000,000 dollars during high season! -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Yahoo! thats a lot of money. Acutally our farm earns 9K a month, but minus the expenses we get like 3-4K a month. The thing is, that it depends on where your working in alaska. Some jobs offer pay depending on what you catch and some jobs offer pay like a working hour pay. Then you still have living expenses. What I was thinking was something like living on a cruise boat that harvested fish and also processed it. Its more of a live on a boat, eat on a boat, poop on a boat, process fish on a boat and everything on a boat. The only thing that sucks is that you have to sign contracts with companies, the weather and working 24/7. But if it pays off at the end. Than im up for it even if I have to scarifice my life.
