I finally got my clip from japan yesterday and after overlooking everything with my friends...this doesnt seem like its going to be that hard of a job at all...i mean it will be a challenge but i certainly dont think this is going to take a year or two like it does a lot of other people. Im just really stoked. Ill have pics along the way and all that good stuff. Any advice from the big boys before i start this project?

Took me 3 weeks doing it by myself with DG doing the wiring. Only took me 3 weeks because of the wait on parts and having to work full time while I did the swap.

If I had vacation time and the parts I could have taken it and finished the swap in a week or so.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

being that your clip is a 205 you need to search harder for a timing belt. I'm not sure if partznet.com could get it for you. You could call them and ask. they deal alot with mr2oc. if not toyota world might have it.

i know...that should make life easier but i still gotta read up on the wiring harness and buy standard replacement parts like timing belt and fuel pump and etc...even though this engine only has 32k on it...but yeah im probably not going to attack it till spring.

If I new more about cars this summer it would have taken me 1 week at the most to do my swap. It took me 5 days to figure out how to pop an axel, 4 days to think about removing the bolt that hooked up to the powersteering unit. 7 days to take out the engine from the clip. 10 days to take out the old engine. and 4 weeks to figure out the wiring and yet I screwed up 4 times.

Overall, much time was spent alone trying to figure out what this thing did and what that thing was. I sucks when you never even did an oil change b4, but now Im like. I can pop any axel in lesss than 15 mins, take out an whole engine in less than 1.5 hour. I should become a car thief and steal ENGINES!! biggrin.gif

keep your power steering. it dosnt hurt your control or anything

replace EVERYTHING you can think of, timing belt, water pump, rear main seal ,thermostat, etc...etc.. etc. ..

become a member of mr2oc.com and look around there for 3rd gen 3sgte part numbers for all thet stuff you need. then call partznet and order them, but dont call without a part number. partznet is my local dealship, and some of the new guys they have there are pretty clueless. if you want you can ask for Tom Realli (i thnk thats how u spell his last name), tell him your a freind of Art (me) and give him your part numbers

you can do a swap in like 2 days.... but normally you want to take your time and somtimes you figure out you need to order something or trouble shoot why your car isint starting or somthing. plan about 2 months, thats what it too me and a few other swapers i know .

cool, keep us updated on how things are going (with pics if you can) I've been kinda down since I passed on my st185 clip, to aim for a 205 that will take much more time to get but yeah the install time should be less. a year is way to long frown.gif

if you can, take a lot of pics of the harness and the connectors were the hook up to the fuse box and ecu. ive never seen a 205 harness and wonder how much wiring work youll have to do (if any). its one of those things that no one has yet to clear up about the 205 swap.
