STAY AWAY from ssautochrome.
If you're wondering why, search this board and read the last few pages of the thread. BTW, on the 3SGE manifold: A Celicatech.com member recently installed a 3SGE from an ST202 into his fourth-gen GTS, and while the ST202 came with a tubular manifold, he says his old 3SGE had a log-style manifold similar to the 5SFE. Pity, there goes a cheap and plentiful manifold upgrade. This post has been edited by Galcobar: Nov 29, 2005 - 2:55 AM |

I can reweld the SS when it cracks. I'd much rather have a 3sge manifold, especially from a st202. I just can't find one anywere. As in there are plenty of 3SGE manifolds out of fourth-gen Celicas hanging around -- but they're log-style manifolds instead of the tubular ones from the later 3SGEs that would represent a real upgrade.

It won't fit without modifications, but that just to the downpipe. They'll work, it's just not a bolt up though.

As I understand the issues with using manifolds or headers designed for MR2s, there's two problems that commonly crop up.
One is a conflict with the alternator bracket -- it's not in the same spot on MR2 5SFEs. The other is the conflict with the suspension cross-member. Everybody I've read about has either cut and rewelded the lower section of the header to a different angle, or cut a notch in the cross-member to accommodate the header. Mind you, it's a 4-1 with short primaries, not exactly a design that will emphasize the low-end torque that is the 5SFE's strength. FSX -- manifold design differences are quite striking. A tubular manifold has separate tubes that join together. A log-style manifold is one piece of metal with four holes on one side and one hole on the other. |

I'd like to see a picture of an mr2 5sfe to see how it's actually different. It doesn't make since that the cross member would be very different. All 5sfe's have the same mounting points. A little notch couldn't hurt much. I'm sick of not having a header on my car. It's embarrassing, so is the speed of this thing.

IT wouldn't make sense that a rear suspension cross-member on a RWD car with a rear-mounted engine would be different from the front suspension cross-member of a FWD car?
You want a header, a good one, properly designed for the 5SFE to maximize what little performance characteristics it has? US$330 for a Genie, or $457 for a Hotshot (Hotshot also comes with the flex pipe). Unless you have to meet emissions standards, both of these can be installed with no modifications. If you do have to meet emissions standards, cut a catalytic converter into your mid-pipe, where your stock resonator goes. |

They have to be similar due to the engines mounting in the same places, don't they? I haven't seen Genie headers anywere. I'm also a little poor right now, so money is always an issue to me. Emitions is never an issue. I don't care about doing some modifications to make it fit. I'm exploring trying to get an H22 header to fit. Well, I get a 3sge, 3sfe, or 5sfe exhaust manifold or header type exit and plate, and cut that about 2 inches after the exit from the motor, and cut the h22 headers in the same spot, then weld together at this point. I can get H22 4-2-1 header for pretty cheap. I'm not set on this. I have to know how long the distance is between the exit ports and under engine of both motors and compare. Also have to compare dirrection of manifolds on each car. There might be a way. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

I have a spare ST202 - 3SGE stock manifold. Its the 4-2-1 design. I dont have the mid-pipe section, but I do have the stock supports. Make offer.

That's a decent one. Man, I really wish you had that bottem part. I have a feeling that going to be a pain in the butt to get ahold of. I'd pay a good bit more than I'm willing to pay without it. What do you think is a fair price for it? That thing doesn't have any place for o2's either.

yeah, it would be easier to make an adapter for it, rather then searching for the stock mid-pipe.
I was thinking $40 or so + shipping. Scott -------------------- Scott
