So I was getting coffee this morning and saw I was again sitting with one light on. I didn't want to get out and bang the crap out of it like last time, so I just broke down and bought new ones. I went to Schucks and got 4 silverstars (two high, two low) and let me tell ya... NOT CHEAP. It came out around 108 bucks, but I am mailing in a 20 dollar rebate, so that will knock the final price down to 88 bucks.
I got home and started changing them out and crap and I found that the previous owner had put in Eurolite bulbs (looked like blue bulbs, but were horrible at lighting the road, and they produced yellow light). So I start changing them and quickly realized that no one with a normal sized hand can do this without jamming into something (Relay box, headlight adjusters, wiper fluid resivour ect.) Well it is finally done, but I wont be able to fully appreciate it until tonight coming home from work. I kind of miss my MK2 GTi now, because it had Hella Brights on it and.. well they were exactly that. Plus the 16V or the VR6 swap was easier, cheaper, and ultimately faster than a 3S swap.. mainly because those cars weigh like 1700lbs. Anyways.. just wanted to share that. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

i have a "normal" sized hand and i changed my bulbs just fine. im not sure if the silverstars have higher wattage and power requirements than factory bulbs but im assuming they do since theyre probably the best halogen bulbs. so it might be a better idea to protect your bulbs from poping and your wire harness from melting and putting higher power harnesses on your headlights. theyre only like 4 bucks each(you need 4 tho) and you splice both wires into the old harness'.

They are stock wattage. 55 watts on the Lows and 65 watts on the Highs.. or is it the other way around.. They are stock wattage though, so I'm not worried about them melting anything. It you change your lights just remember do not touch the bulb with your bare hands, oil will deposit itself on the bulb and compromise its strength by melting or bubbling up and eventually blowing up. FUN

I just bought some silverstar's today for the low beams and they came out to $34 with a $5 mail-in rebate. They were buy one, get one half off. If you have an Advance Auto Parts, that's where the deal is going down right now.

oil on all lights will destroy them. I remember a couple years ago My school hired me to do lights for a school/local government thing. I got up in the ceiling and found that half the lights in the auditorium were burnt out. I went up there and changed the broken ones, and I found bubbles all over them. I asked the drama teacher if her crew would help me out, and so they came and were throwing the bulbs around, not using gloves, and all that crap. and I dont think those Par, Source 4, and Zoom bulbs are HID's... but if they were.. that would be pimp..

Wow $108 for all 4?
![]() Yeah changing those bulbs are a pain. I'm a girl and I thought having skinny hands would be an advantage, but even I come out having scratches trying to change those bulbs. |
