Ok, time to start picking tires for the new shoes. Of course, size is going to be 215/35-18. What we're looking for is outstanding dry traction, as good as it gets for the tire series wet traction, and good cornering abilities. Now.......
Originally we were looking at the Yokohama Parada Spec-2. But, the lack of wet traction turned us off to those. While perusing around, I happened to stumble across the following tire: Linky To Tire -- Now, don't let the fact that it's a General tire scare you off. It's rated #1 in category just ahead of the BFG g-Force T/A KDW2, which is our other choice right now at almost twice the price. The General gives up a little cornering and turn-in stability to the g-Force, but makes up for it with wet traction and ride noise/comfort. So......$86 each for the General Exclaim UHP, or $159 each for the KDW2's. For a comparison LOOK HERE. -------------------- |

I would go with the UHP, if there is not much
differences between them. You'll be saving alot of money for all 4. -------------------- ![]() 98 ST204 ZR - Black Beauty - Roaming the streets of Sydney 73 TA22 LT - Tiffany Blue - Mint Classic Weekend Cruiser 75 TA22 LT - Snow White - Mint Classic Weekend Cruiser 77 RA28 LT - Flubber Green - Mint Classic Weekend Cruiser 94 MX-5 NA8 Clubman - Red Racer - Looking for corners WIP Project: 69 RT40 Corona, 2nd WIP Project: 66 RT40 1600s Corona 86 Corona RT142 - Daily Driver 6GC 4 Life Baby!!! |

i swear by the KDW-2's. i'm pretty sure that they were the second best dry grip and best wet grip for a summer tire when i got mine. i have never had a traction issue in the rain when driving normal but they suck in the snow

If you can get em...Goodyear Eagle F1`s alot of the serious GT4 lot use them and i`ll be switching to them when the summer comes. Megga dry weather traction and probably the best wet weather tyre available.

what Insanity-74 said. I used to have Goodyear Eagle F1's on mine and it had superb wet traction and it just stuck to the road when it was dry. They were pretty expensive but well worth the money. Either that or Falken *edit* ST-115's. I heard those were pretty good and cheap too.

F1's are a no-go. I had a set of those on one of our Trans Am's and personally did not like them at all. I found them to be VERY noisey (squeaky when traction broken), but worse they were a bit floaty on water. Not a fan.
My all time favorite tire, the Firestone Firehawk SZ-50, was discontinued unfortunately. -------------------- |

QUOTE(Fastbird @ Apr 1, 2006 - 11:43 PM) F1's are a no-go. I had a set of those on one of our Trans Am's and personally did not like them at all. I found them to be VERY noisey (squeaky when traction broken), but worse they were a bit floaty on water. Not a fan. Really? Doesn't sound right at all. Both my cars run Eagle F1 GSD03s and I wouldn't have anything else. Drove home last night in the driving rain with no issues whatsoever..... F1s consistantly score very well in independant tests and I rate them highly. -------------------- JDM ST205

F1 GSD 3's here too, they are amazing in both wet and dry but they do wear quickly (on a GT4 anyway) over here (UK) the best price I got them for is £90 each in 215/45/17 not sure about US prices. I have not heard of a better tyre, a similar one is called a Toyo Proxe T1R.

Just for thought... I have been real impressed with the Fuzion ZRi tires that I put on my car. They handle really well in dry and wet and have a good sidewall that takes turns real well. Prices are good too. with the size you are looking at is $119. They are definately the best handling tire I've had. Just my two cents.

Since yesterday I have my new rims (yeah) With Toyo Proxes T1-R around it. All i can say is what a great tyre. Dry and Wet are both great plus cornering is superd. Almost reconsidering getting my teins
![]() @Fastbird: What you said about the F1's on your transam. This may sound strange but in some cases a tire that scores good on one car can be less at another. And your transam is a different kind of car, RWD and more weight in it. Those are factors that also should be accounted for. My best bet are either the Toyo Proxes T1-R or the Eagle F1's for our Celica's. With the Eagle F1 on top, but only because it lasts longer then the T1-R. Read some reviews where both tyres were compared. This post has been edited by Kadett: Apr 6, 2006 - 11:22 AM -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!
