ok, Im going for the 5sfte project, starting now, Im just buying parts here and there slowly. I should have everything in about 2 months. Im going with the 3" exhaust and magnaflow muffler, the only thing is..........ive been stuck with my boring stock exhaust, forever, and my cars already been kitted, painted, and all that jazz, and I want the custom exhaust system now.
So heres my question, Will my exhaust sound bad for the time being that I dont have my turbo installed, Does it even effect the sound?? Im just ready to get it now, and if it'll be fine than ill be on my way. wink.gif

Get the turbo in, then get the exhaust work done.

it really kinda pointless to get an exhaust system made up for the 5sfe, then cutting the mid pipe up and refitting it to the 5sfte.

on a 5sfte 3" is overkill.
(trust me, i HAVE 3" all the way back"
you dont need any bigger than 2.5
that way, when the motor goes, you can go back stock without having to have your whole exhaust redone.

Your^^^^^^actually the reason I am considering a 3" exhaust, 2.5 would be even better.
Im looking for simular gains you achieved, around the 200whp mark, so Im trying my best to follow your footsteps on this one........hope you dont mind biggrin.gif

but on a side note, does it affect the sound with the 2.5-3", and by how much?
ooh, and what do you mean, when my motor goes??

cause when you turbo the 5sfe, especially one without a metal headgasket, its not a matter of IF it goes...its a matter of WHEN.

So, if anybody turbos there 5sfe its only for temporary???
That Sucks!!
Even if you take care of it, and dont over boost??
I wanna know cuz I aint gonna spend all that money on a freakin turbo kit, just so that it could blow up on me in the future.

a turbo kit is not something u bolt on and forget about. some people have blown their motors, some had other issues and decided to go back to NA before anything bad happens. you have to know the risks before you jump into it. presure2s setup is probably the most well thought out one yet, and his works fine....but unlike most people he really did his homework and went all out on it. you also have to remember that you are trying to make 100% more power out of a motor that was never designed to do that. so there are large risks involved.

if you keep it at a decent psi (6-7) then you shouldn't have to worry too much.

If you are trying to build a racing machine, then you have the wrong engine in there. You are taking an engine and ECU that wasn't designed for boost and that is almost 10 years old and putting a lot more pressure into it.

IMO if you build a good (smart) kit, put 6-7 psi to it daily, and a good tune with the SAFCII it will last for a good amount of time. If you put 10-12 psi daily, then expect it to pop in less than a year.

one problem to keep in mind is.... that its almost impossible to run 6-7 psi . you would need a very restrictive exhaust to help keep the boost that low. with a 3in exhaust, youll be lucky if you can keep it at just 10-12psi.

you may be right about that. But if he is using a CT26 and if he is using the 185 DP he might creep to the 8-10spi range. Manny has the ct27 and he creeps to 12+ with his 3" and strait DP.

ok guys well Im gonna cry so I need your advice??
Im not planning on taking the cheap way out, but I do plan on haveing my car 2 years from now,and swapping a new motor is not something I have in mind. I dont want a 3sgte for other reasons that dont matter. I already knew that my motor would need lots of attention, with a turbo setup, but I also thought that as long as I do so, I would have nothing major to worry about.
For my case if I go with all the recommendations is it really worth it to go with the turbo setup?

if you want the car to be realible, keep it stock. anytime you do anything custom, you have to accept the fact that one day something may happen to the motor and it may need to be replaced. if you are cool with that, turbo it and have fun. if that sounds like something you want to avoid at all costs. keep the car stock.

the farther from stock you go, the more chances you have of things breaking.

agreed

my stock head gasket had 186k +4k with 10 psi. Finally gave out however it may have been due to bad timming from the guys who rebuilt my engine (from the bottom)

You could asked other people's opinion
who have done it or still running the 5sfte.
Like Shin he just had his boosted.
(he is the only one that came to mind)
Sorry if I missed anyone else.

Like everyone that has mention, research and
know the risks your getting yourself into.

But I like your spirit wink.gif
