My dad has a 1998 Toyota Celica GT convertible. We got some KYB GR2's part numbers: 365092 AND 334125 AND 334126. We also have H&R sports.
For the front shocks they are just the cartridge (straight tube with nothing on it). There is no perch for the spring to rest on. What am i supposed to do (about there being no perch)? You have to use the strut housing from the stock struts. Cut off the top of the the strut, pull out the stock shock and insert the new cartridge. If you are getting KYB's, I think you have the wrong part numbers. KYB makers the whole strut for the celica, I believe.

the fronts are just inserts, rear are the whole strut...

Don't cut, don't do nothing like that with KYB's. Rears should be the whole strut assembly. The front "tubes" as you call them are inserts. When you remove the front strut, you'll see where to unscrew the cap to take the tube out. Careful though, it's an oil shock and will get oil everywhere when you remove it. Be sure to dump the oil in the strut out as well. Slip in the KYB cartridge and use the cap that they provide to screw it back on.

The front shocks on certain models are non rebuildable. I checked at a couple places and for the 1998 celica gt convertible it is not.
If I cut off the top and insert the cartridge what keeps it in place? Can someone detail this process so that i know exactly what to do. |

The fronts are cartridge replacements. They are held on by a screw on cap. The rears have the shock cartridge built into the assembly. When you get the front strut and spring off, you'll see where it unscrews. Take out old nasty oil cartridge, dump out oil, drop in shiny new Nitrogen cartridge, screw on provided cap, reassemble, and enjoy!
