QUOTE(Kwanza26 @ Jan 11, 2006 - 5:45 PM) Is there a reason why you're swapping? I'm wondering this too? 2.2 Celica, for 2.2 MR2? There are no gains what so ever. It's just a different 2.2 5sfe. As long as it's OBD1, which it is. If it's because it's less miles, then that's a reason, but not that good of one. I have 143k on my 5sfe, and all I need to do is put a new disstributer and plug wires on it soon. Same thing you'll have to do with a 40k motor in a bit. Are you planning on putting a turbo on a low milage 5sfe? No one is ever happy with there 5sfe turbo for every long. It's a baby set on the performance ladder. Don't get me wrong, those turbo 5sfe could smoke me in a line. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

I would only do this if the MR2 engine was free. I certainly hope you're not paying for it, otherwise you may as well just buy a clip with a 3SGTE and have someone swap it into your car for you. Good luck!

Good luck! ^^I don't share this guy's opinion. 3sgte is going to cost way more and be a lot more work. I'd also say to keep you motor for parts. Because you aren't going to get any money out of it hardly at all, but I'm sure there's still some good stuff on it. Bottem line, it'll be worth more for you to keep it, than sell it. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

who are you paying to swap the engine? bc I would say if you have the know-how to do that yourself, you might as well just fix the one you have and save the money. It'll cost you even more than the $875 to swap the engine.

BEWARE this guy. Seriously, be very careful. 400hp out of a 5sfe is near impossable and would cost upwards of at least $15k (estimate). This is what my dad and I refer to a BSer. Dad has his own business and so does my uncle and we will all tell you, you don't want to deal with a BSer, cause they're just full of it. They'll tell you they know all kinds of things when they don't know jack. I don't care if it's your best friend or even a brother, don't trust this person. Even if he has a 3sgte, 400hp is very rare. WARNING TO ALL BSers: If I find you, I will set you strate. You can't lie to poeple who know, and it will happen. Then you won't look cool at all. You'll look like a jackass. Its interesting to read these quotes together.

They do help though, and like I said, they are the basics. Using a CAI with synthetic oil and full exhaust will make a noticeable difference. It won't be as much as a turbo, but it'll be something. i think jay is saying the bulldog guy is full of sh!t. anyway. i wouldnt say all that about him because he is ur buddy. i doubt he'll lie to you like that. i personally dont believe any 5sfe ever made it to 400hp... or near 150hp without a turbo. maybe u misunderstood him. however, for that price hes offering the engine for, for cheaper, you can go to a junky and get a 5sfe out of a celica with decent milage and it'll drop right into your car with absolutely no modifications. mr2, i believe was mounted in the rear so there might be some things that are a bit different, so just be careful. keep us updated n goodluck.

essentially same motor, but i would do a little homework on it first, see about wiring diagrams and check if the connections are the same, mainly the ecu connections and see if there are any differences. i would try using the MR2s ECU if possible just incase there are any subtle differences. as far as the motor being mounted in the back... no difference since you will want to reuse your celica transmission, you should probably have whoever you have do the swap also tear down and rebuild your tranny while its out. i didnt check, but if you have a MT, i would recommend resurfacing the flywheel and getting a new clutch disk and anything else showing severe wear from 160,000 miles, if you have an AT just make sure the torque converter is in good shape because thats usually one of the big things that needs to be rebuilt.
AND ALSO REMEMBER: JUST BECAUSE ITS LOWER MILAGE DOESNT MEAN ITS IN BETTER CONDITION... leakdown and compression test is a MUST before putting your car under the knife, remove the head and check the valves for any seating issues, scarring on the walls, and any bent valves, used motors, more-so than any other used parts are always a major gamble. -------------------- ![]() Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm... QUOTE(JoKeRkId613 @ Jan 13, 2006 - 7:57 PM) i think jay is saying the bulldog guy is full of sh!t. What I am saying is that going to a 5sfte can net you HUGE increases performance wise (on a percentage basis) over the 5sfe. Look at Manny (presure2) making 210+whp and 230ft/lbs+ torque and the stock 5sfe makes about 120whp. The suggestion that turboing a 5sfe is a "baby step" in power is not accurate - especially when you compare it to adding a cold air intake and synthetic oil like he has recommended to people in the past. I think we as a community need to do just as bulldog says and try to correct misinformation that is propogated by others. QUOTE(Bigmeanbulldog55 @ Jan 13, 2006 - 8:39 PM) Are you just picking on me for the fun of it? No, pointing out inaccuracies and inconsistencies. For the life of me, I cannot understand how someone can make those two statements I referenced. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |
