I'm looking at purchasing some 16" wheels from a 7th gen Celica to go on my '97 GT w/ alloy wheels, and wanted to know if the 6th gen tires will fit.

I've read that it's a pretty easy swap (and looks good), but do I need to worry about having to buy new tires as well as the rims?

Apparently my rims have begun to corrode inside and are causing one tire to leak air because it's not getting a good seal on the lip, and I recently purchased tires - about 5k miles ago and I'm not looking forward to needing to buy new ones along with the 7th gen rims.

Anybody? I figure with this being such a common swap, there should be an article on the main site about this. smile.gif

No they will not fit.
The 6gen wheels are 15"
While the 7gen are 16".
So therefore the tires will not fit.
But the wheels will.

Gotcha. So new tires required, not a huge problem.

Question is, are they a direct bolt-on? No extra parts required?

No extra parts are needed.
They are the same stud pattern and
the offset is right too, so you dont
need spacers.

There are 15" alloy 7th gen rims too. They're not five spokes like the 16" though.

lower spec 7gen (sx) which look like

7th gen GT wheels are 15in and the tires and lug nuts off your car will work fine.

7th gen GTS wheels (5 spoke) are 16in and the tires wont work off your 15in wheels obviously...the lug nuts will though.

So both the GT (15") and GTS (16") rims will fit our 6 gens.
What's the standard tire sizes for those? I'm wondering if there's a tire size (width/aspect) difference in the stock wheels so the resulting speedo will be different.

Actually the 5 spoke came in 15"s also on some GT 7Th Gens.
I have the 16"s - they look great but you will definetly need new tires.
Speedo seems fine - everytime I get pulled over I was going as fast as they say I was LOL.

That's too big. I have 205/40/16's. 205/45/16 is stock I believe.

www.discounttire.com (taken with a grain of salt) says 205/50-16.

is there a calculator tool that I can use to try and keep the speedo as close as possible without re-calibration?

Wrong...both sizes are stock for 7th gen GTS...
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/SelectTireSi...04&autoModClar=

For a 94GT celica the stock size is 205/55/15...the closiest to that you can get for a 16in wheel is 205/50/16. DONT GET 205/40 or 205/45...your car will look retarded unless it is SLAMMED.

205/50/16 works great...you wont need to recalibrate your speedo... It wont be off enough to make any difference that you or the radar can pick up. I actually perfer the 205/55/16 because its alittle more sidewall (fills in the fender gap and rides alittle better) but when your speedo reads 65mph its really like 67mph ....i could care less about that.....WHO DRIVES EXACTLY THE SPEED LIMIT?!?!@ smile.gif
