So i went out 3s hunting today and i found a place that has a 2nd gen 3s out of an altrac and out of a MR2. Im thinkin of gettin the mr2 one cuz it comes with every thing and an uncut harness. The main thing i noticed about it was that since it doesnt have a top mount intercooler it has this pipe that goes across the block after the turbo. It has a lil flange right above the turbo. The guy at the shop said its a perfect place to put a BOV. So my question is, can i put a BOV there? and second question is, can i use this pipe with the all the other piping for the intercooler? or would i have to replace it??.

Best pics i could find of the pipe im talkin about...

Also for piping. I got quoted from JRP (yea im still dealin with them, dont ask why) for piping. At somepoint i got a list of piping sizes and bends and every thing. The pipes i got listed were 8 90 degree pipes, 1 45 degree and 1 180 degree. For the 90 degree pipes they want $40 a pop, and the 45s they want $68 a pop and they dont carry 180s. Is this 2 much for 2 inch aluminum pipes? Im thinkin of goin 2 an exhaut shop soon and asking them for pricing.

MR2 has a stock BPV...so idk why you'd change its location. I dont know if you'd use that pipe because your not going to use a side mount intercooler you'll be front.

you cant use any of the mr2s piping. i tried putting on the hot pipe that i have and it sticks out so far that our hoods dont close with it.

dont worry too much about bovs and ic piping. if you want to do swap, start trying to find a good clip. a bov will probably be the last thing you mount to the car.

i think this site will help u

dont buy an mr2 clip without knowing the diffrences between the mr2 version of the 3s and the celica version...there are quite a few diffrences that you'll have to address if your planning on swapping with it.

the 2 big problems youll have with a mr2 3s is #1 the harness is diffrent, and #2 some of the accessories are in diffrent spots, the waternecks are diffrent, ect..unless your just swapping out one 3s for antoher, its much easier to start with a celica clip

whats the deal with everyone trying to buy an mr2 clip ?

get a celica clip. make sure nothing is cut or messed with .

dont depend on anyones friends to do the swap for you. if anyone comes and helps for a little while, then its a big bonus, but remember, it will be you laying there at 3am in a pool of tranny oil working on getting your car done.

Its the tranny Art. I know that you don't believe thats a big issue but I am a firm believer that if you can address the issues with the wiring, mounts and alternator location, getting the MR2 tranny is worthwhile - especially if you plan on modding the 3s after you get it.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

oh yeah, no doubt that tranny is worth having. problem is, that its a lot harder to put that motor into your celica if its your 1st swap. so if you know what you are doing, then sure get it...but if its your 1st swap, get the celica clip.

edit: lol, jay... i need to put that in my sig! hahaha

Im gettin them to do the swap completely because i dont have the room to do the swap here. One of Harry's friends dad worked for toyota in the philipeans and knows how 2 deal with tons of JDM motors. Im pretty much gonna be paying them to do the swap and im gonan be the one helpin out. Its gonna be the same thing as bringing the car 2 the a garage and me comin in every so often and helpin out.

val,
I would suggest to get the mr2 engine coz you will need the mr2 tranny anyways in the long run
and the harness is uncut and it come w/ the ecu right?
you can use the 5s alternator bracket for the 3s
but dont forget that you need the all trac tranny shift linkage if you're going for the mr2 tranny.
good luck on you decision.

buy a front clip from a jdm celica...throw away the awd tranny then buy the mr2 tranny seperate with the halfshafts and crap for the axels that u need...i actually think deph's 3sge tranny is the best choice since theres no modification required

i have a Celica and a MR2.... take my advice and get a alltrac clip because it fits right in and there is less mod required. Just buy a mr2 or 3sge tranny seperate cause you are asking for a big headache thinking that getting the mr2 clip will save you money in the long run.
