How much can it realistically take without a bottom end build/head work??? Reason I ask is because when I do inevitably do the swap, I'd like to work on building the motor to the 300WHP range.

How much boost and power can a GenII 3S take???

yah hydes car is crazy...mad power to that bada$$ car. i think his motor also has 180k mile or something and he's still making that much power? someone correct me if im wrong. the 2nd gen 3sgte can take all the way to 400whp stock motor...or so i've heard from various mr2 owners in my area. theres a guy i know south of me whose making 340rwhp on his mr2 reliably (daily driven) for years with turbo upgrade and some kind of standalone (i cant remember which 1). hes also over at the mr2oc site. check that place out...alot of good info. for 300whp the stock motor can take it and dish out more biggrin.gif

here...read up! smile.gif http://mrcontrols.com/primers/power.htm

that is your 3sgte bible when u finally get one under your hood. good luck!

Ummmmm.........(searching for the right word without using an expletive)......Dang! I wasn't aware that they had that potential. Kinda makes my decision for me...........For getting a clip for $1500 or so, can't be beat with that potential. Thanks for the info guys!

the 3sgte has the most potential of any of the toyota motors that can be swaped into a celica. thats why you always see us raving about the 3sgte.

Well, let me rephrase that. I didn't think the GenII motor had that much in it. I was assuming that only the GenIII motor had the "real" potential to it.

well the gen2 and gen3 3sgte are very alike with the same kind of potential for making power. stock for stock the 3rd gen has better turbo, better fueling, and doesnt have a crappy afm lol there are various little differences between the two but fundamentally they are the same.

you should read the power primer. it will tell you everything the motor can do, and what it takes to get there
http://mrcontrols.com/primers/power.htm

here is a quote from that site

"A gen3 3S-GTE is no better a platform with which to make big power than a gen2. Although the gen3 produces more power in its stock configuration, all of that power comes from simple improvements that can be applied to a gen2 engine. Once you reach about 300rwhp, the playing field is essentially level. "

Good info guys. I thought there were head/internal differences between the two motors. I wasn't aware that it was just external supporting differences.

At this point, given that clips are available for around $1500, I feel that this is something that WILL happen either late this year or early next spring depending on finances. You guys have been instrumental. Big thanks go out to all of ya.
