ok look, today i was going like 35-45 down a street right and than i thought about abs and if it really works, so i slammed on the breaks, kept the foot there and the wheels locked and made a skidding noise and it smelled like burned rubber, i dont know if this is abs or not, really never experienced it, is there something wrong wiht my abs?

Did you feel any pulse through the brake padel when
you slammed on the brake?
If you didnt then I dont think your ABS is working.
But the ABS light should light up if it's not working.
I would go get it check out.
Braking is an important feature in a car.

Most likely you dont have abs, because when you start up the car,
the computer check and test to see if the abs is working.
Once it has verified that it is in working order the abs light will switch off.
This normally takes about 2 seconds.
So if it doesnt light up on start, I dont think it has it, unless the last owner took the bulb out kindasad.gif
Ok from the pic, look down on the left hand side.
You'll see the bottle for the washer, its just above that with all those metal lines
coming out and running alone the side of the engine bay.

Depends if you're locked up at 70mph in the wet sliding towards the stopped line of traffic on the freeway I guess.

having abs makes your insurance go down a bit.

but i've heard that f1 drivers prefer non-abs brakes (something about feeling themselves to be more sensitive than the abs computer). could make sense given that they can see the course around them and brake according to what they're about to drive over.

for normal road driving it would be good to have but not worth putting it in if you don't already have it.

although if you were in a place where you get snow or even freezing rain, then you'll probably need it.

A lot of racers prefer to have non abs setups. First off it saves weight, is less complicated to work on, and you have total control of the brakes. I prefer not to have ABS in my cars.

This is true too, if your car is just going to be a daily driver in a lot of snow and freezing rain then yeah, ABS may be to your advantage to have if you don't know how to handle your car.

ABS has saved me a few times smile.gif
So I think its worth having.
But I think it would be too complicated to add it on now.

Not sure about ABS being slower. It's banned from every form of competitve racing I know because it's so damn effective.

Yes, proper race drivers dislike it because it removes an element of control, but there's no doubting it works.

I wouldn't be without it, and only pull the fuse in the snow.

Race drivers dislike it and I think another reason it's banned is if you're a professional class racer you should know how to slow down your car just as fast as an ABS system.
