QUOTE(JFrost9 @ Feb 22, 2006 - 7:44 PM) ok heres another dumb question, what does recirculating it mean, like in terms of improving gas mileage and what not....and i think dustin was wanting to know what the stand alone did, and if he didnt, i would. Nice cars guys!! A standalone is a computer that replaces your cars ECU. It is fully programmable to deliver the correct amount of fuel and the precise timing of spark as set by the user or "tuner". Going to a standalone is necessary as power increases because the stock ECU is preset to work on a certain size injector and only so much air flow. As you increase fuel and air flow beyond those limitations, a new computer is needed to control things. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

Excellent choice. Please hook us up with some videos, I'll have sweet camera mounts for sale soon. You can focus on the road and not holding the cam.

awesome, thanks for the answers... I had heard a little about a stand alone, and knew it would replace the ECU, but i certainly didnt know all that. So what happens if you dont get a stand alone? Like in jays case, he said he didnt want to spend the money to get one..so im guessing its not required?

is their a way to run it with out the BOV being recirculated and not have any problems. my friends eclipse is sapoused to be recirculated but he got a MAF translator so it doesnt expect the air that is being blown off. is their any thing like this for the 3S??

For a 3sgte, the point is somewhere around 270whp which is about where I am at. I chose this turbo partly because I was pretty sure that I wouldn't want (or need) any more than that. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

"problems" is relative. Most of us on this site have BOV vented to the atmosphere and do not have any real "problems". The problems are really limited to occassional backfires and a very slight performance decrease imediately after shifting. If you like the noise of a BOV vented to the atmosphere, its really a pretty small price to pay. For me, the noise is more annoying than anything else so I decided to buy a BOV that can be recirculated. My turbosmart has worked flawlessly and will be for sale when I get the Greddy installed. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

Nuke from celicatech is working on his own version of the afm to map converter right now. he has a prototype built and when the testing and tuning phase is over, he will sell them to the 3sgte comunity. as for the MAF translator, i saw one on a local DSM and contacted the company that makes them. they said that they plan to add 3sgte support to it, but that it will take some time before thats available. running the bov vented isint really and problem. most of us have had them vented for a long time now, but i think that once you recirculate it, youll feel better throttle response and get better gas milage, so its a worth while mod. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

QUOTE Today, 05:48 PM jgreening '98 GT Convertible When the BOV goes on, I am also getting my new 36" magnaflow mid-muffler. Here's a pic: mid-muffler I used to have that muffler on my car with a 3"core magnaflow muffler in back-it makes a BIG difference also sounded a bit deeper if you want it even quieter a freind of mine went with two 24" mufflers of the same kind in series togethe and it sounded good too. -------------------- If anyone is missing NASCAR and it's not on Speed Channel, take a fistful of Skittles, throw them in the toilet and hit the flush handle.
