yea, fun car. to bad the 06's are so ugly(not that the 04/05's are much better looking) its a shame that they(STI's) are hyped up so much as well.

the STI 6spd is the only mechanical aspect that the STI has over the EVO(which handles better and makes more power with less money). the transmission is simply amazing. i dont like the gearing much, but it wont break.

I have said this before and I will say it again, the only problem with buying a used STI/WRX/EVO is that people like me own them. they mod them to all hell, then put the car back to stock when it comes time to sell it.

im pretty happy with my WRX, cant beat $900 a year for insurance, and STI guys get pretty upset when they realize my car is faster than theirs and im still running a stock turbo biggrin.gif

their must have been some stuff done to that STI. my friend has a 2004 STI with a full exhaust and upgraded throttle body and this other kid i know has a 2003 Evo 8 stock and the evo all ways wins. ill admit the STI's are fast but i wouldnt really want one. plus their is a ton of turbo lag on them, they usually dont spool untill around 4K RPM.

actually the sti has one more thing over the evo..it as all time awd...which u prob know..all fours wheels put power down..when in the evo only the front left and rear right..or vis versa..(cant remember) put the power down...also one thing the sti has that i absolutly love is that u can control the power distrabution over the 4 wheels..have 50% up front and 50% in the rear..or my personal favorite 20% up front, and 80% in the rear biggrin.gif

for 1, a stock 2003 evo is not faster than a stock STI(they are neck and neck). 2, an STI with full exhaust is definately faster than a stock 2003 evo. your friend in the STI cant drive

also, the STI's are drive by wire, i highly doubt any company makes an upgraded throttle body, besides, its pretty damn big to begin with.

and well, your just plain wrong about the spooling at 4k rpm. my wrx has a 2.0l engine, i have the dinky ass stock turbo which has to work very hard to fill a turbo xs fmic, yet i still have full boost at about 3k(which is where they hit it stock) an sti with the bigger engine, AVCS, and the stock TMIC spools faster than a stock WRX and makes a lot of torque below 4krpm

its actually 35% front, 65% rear to 50/50 split

and my car has that now biggrin.gif

my buddy just got a 2006 evo 9, its a great car and it has ACD, which is similar to my DCCD, only u have to select from 3 modes where mine is adjustable. but yea, power distribution in an evo is all computer controlled.

I test drove a STI when I traded my '95 Celica. I know this sounds weird but I was so spoiled by my Celica's handling (mainly the lack of body roll while cornering) that I felt the STI was just too sloppy for me. I liked the power alot but I've owned a swapped Celica before and I figured it would be better in the long run to get as new a 6th gen as possible and swap it.
I also test drove a 7th gen GTS but same as the STI - I just thought it felt "cheap" - not as well constructed as the 6th gens.
just my .02

The only think I've driven that felt better was a VW. And the quality and solidness of those cars puts ours to shame. I drove an 05 Golf GTi.

I test drove an 02 WRX a few months back. It was slightly moded. Perrin hoses, FMIC, STi pinks and a stage 2 clutch. It was nice. Held the road 10X better than the Celi. I got on the highway and the next thing I knew I was doing about 95. doesn't even feel like accelerating (probably a bad thing) The only thing I am weary about when it comes to Subarus is the leaky cam seals and transfer case seals, and the squishy trucker-like shifter. My mom had her 99 Legacy GT in a shop (not a dealership) and she was quoted 600 bucks to fix her cam seals and another 400 for the transfer case. But Subaru's sound so mean with the Scoobyworld Afterburner Vortex exhaust. RAWR

Boost isn't always hp, you know that. Those srt-4s put out something like 16psi, and they can't even imagin holding with an Evo or STi stock.

The reason the SRT-4 can't keep up has nothing to do with raw horsepower. The power it makes at the crank is almost identical to the EVO8.

I'm not impressed with pre-2000 VW's. I drove around a passat GLI VR6 for a while. It seems like volkswagen really watered that car down to make it more friendly. The steering was loose, the shifter was clunky, the ride was too forgiving... not my taste. The VR6 engine, on the other hand, is a work of art. Definitely on my "top five favorite engines" list.

Enlighten me please. 276 hp and 286 lb-ft. Evo8, and 230 hp and 250 ft-lb for the SRT-4. Those are the numbers I got from a 3min search. First sites I came too.
How does the srt-4 have the same hp as an Evo8? And then, how come they can't run with them if they do?

from a roll, the srt-4 wont be far behind stock for stock. Now $3000 worth of mods for the srt-4 and you can outrun an evo from a roll. He also said at the crank, the numbers u posted are at the wheels. Also the 2 cars have VERY different gearing and transmissions.

Do a little more research. Dodge rated the SRT4 at the wheels. People are dynoing them at anywhere from 225-235hp and 245-265 ft-lbs at the wheels STOCK.

its 3:50AM and i just came back from the street races in south philly and their were a ton of evos and STI's and they kept paring them up and the evos kept winning, even when they were both stock. my opinion, evos are better. not saying anything bad about the STi, still a good car but evos still my favorite. plus the 06 STIs are hiddious.

I don't doubt that the SRT-4 is fast. I bet with $3000 or a little more worth of mods, from what I hear, they could run with an Evo8. All you would need is a wide set of tires and the right suspension, and you could hold from the line. I just don't understand why the SRT-4 doesn't get any more attention. I do need to do a little more research on it. That's why I was asking though, I'd like to know more. And if both those numbers I posted were at the wheels, the Evo is still 46hp up on the SRT-4.
