My granny can gun a car in a straight line, the fun in turbo awd cars is in the corners, thats where these beasts man up.
If I didnt have my GT4, Id get an EVO, STI/WRX are sooooooo common.

I just drove a 2003 WRX STi (JDM) last friday, and I have to agree with the thread starter on alot of things. The car had 280 hp (compared to the 230-ish on regular STi's) because it's a JDM version. It also had alot of fancy stuff that's not normally found on european STi's. It has the 2.0 engine though, and not the 2.5 found in the US (and in Eu from 06 and on).

The car had IC water spray, adjustable diffs, full recaro bucket seats, a new intake and exhaust, new gauges+++. It was of course a right hand drive, but after like 10 corners that was just like driving a left hand drive.

Almost everything on the JDM STi is better than a US or Eu version. And compared to a normal Eu STi this car was a beast. I have two friends who own STi's. They work really well even without boost and I could drive without problems in fifth where I usually have to use fourth in my Audi. This is because the STi have a six gear tranny though, so the fifth is kinda like my fourth.. But also because the two cars can't be compared at all. 130 hp Audi A4 versus 2003 JDM STi with upgrades.

Anyway, my point is that those cars are really great. They are pricey, but they are worth it. A Celica GT-Four could probably beat one, but a 94 GT-Four vs. 2003-2006 STi.. What car will most likely last the next 10 years? You just can't ignore age on a car..

Btw; those cars cost _alot_ in Norway.. Closer to 87 000$ US.. So they are naturally very rare. The kids took out their cell phones and started filming us as we were driving past.. People turning their heads everywhere. It was fun smile.gif And even though I was driving like 30 in a 45 nobody tried to drive past me tongue.gif They just formed a line behind me waiting..

The reason the SRT-4 can't keep up has nothing to do with raw horsepower. The power it makes at the crank is almost identical to the EVO8.

Enlighten me please. 276 hp and 286 lb-ft. Evo8, and 230 hp and 250 ft-lb for the SRT-4. Those are the numbers I got from a 3min search. First sites I came too.
How does the srt-4 have the same hp as an Evo8? And then, how come they can't run with them if they do?

from a roll, the srt-4 wont be far behind stock for stock. Now $3000 worth of mods for the srt-4 and you can outrun an evo from a roll. He also said at the crank, the numbers u posted are at the wheels. Also the 2 cars have VERY different gearing and transmissions.

I don't doubt that the SRT-4 is fast. I bet with $3000 or a little more worth of mods, from what I hear, they could run with an Evo8. All you would need is a wide set of tires and the right suspension, and you could hold from the line. I just don't understand why the SRT-4 doesn't get any more attention. I do need to do a little more research on it. That's why I was asking though, I'd like to know more. And if both those numbers I posted were at the wheels, the Evo is still 46hp up on the SRT-4.

The SRT-4 in rated at the wheels, the EVO is rated at the crank. Factor in drivetrain loses and they're about equal (I wouldn't be suprised if the SRT-4 is a little more; I just don't know of anyone who has ever ripped the engine out and hooked it up to a dynometer).

heh, $3k into an srt4?

do you have any idea what kind of powerhouse that would create?

they can be at 300whp and 350wtq with a couple hundred dollars in mods. that would be more than enough to easily beat a stock evo. lets not forget that stock, they put down almost the same power and that the SRT4 is a good bit lighter than an evo8

$3600 will get an AGP stage 4 kit on a srt4 and that thing will pump out 400hp to the wheels on pump gas.

I'd take an evo over an STi anyday; even before the STi got hit with the ugly stick.

Then again I'd still rather have a RWD car with optional traction and stability control for inclement weather. Most AWD cars have the tendency to understeer. RWD really is the best way to go for all-around driving awesomeness.

I'm looking into these srt-4s. I'm starting to like them. I just wish they came in a 2 door, and a little smaller.

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought about as soon as I considered it. I don't trust Dodge at all for reliability. I don't think I'll get one for that reason, but I'll at least look at them. STi's seem to better all around.
