I saw a presentation of the R32 last week. GTi is bullS next to it. and only 200bhp, come on, why did they put a turbo to get 200 bhp?

So you don't have to rev it up to 8000rpms just to make power. The turbocharger makes the powerband more accessible, plus show me a production 2.0L N/A engine that makes 207 pound-feet of torque... then you'll start to understand why it has a turbo.

I like VW's. I've considered a 1.8t GTi. I like the Golfs better than the Jettas. VW seems to have a solid build to them. But, this makes them heavy. I haven't heard any reviews of a VW that they didn't mention how heavy it was. This goes especailly for the sports cars.

They are well built and are solid cars.

My grandpa has a 96 TREK Jetta, and has never had a problem with it. I don't know know how people think they're so bad. I have heard stories about lemons with these cars though. That might be the problem.

they're good cars, my friend at work has a Golf GTi (I think it's a 2003). Really good power, he hasn't had any problems with the car.

My problem with it was traction. We had one in the wholesale lot at work, I pulled it out for a drive. Had a bigger turbo, different exhaust, aftermarket clutch, and somethin else I can't remember what the list had in the car. When it hit boost it SPUN the front tires, not like a chirp but like scary spinning the tires. After that I noticed that even my friend's stock GTi did the same, not to the same degree but if you gunned it in a corner you just went straight lol.

I would say if you're going to get one, a good investment would be tires. I'm not sure if the car has LSD or not (I'm guessing it doesn't by the way it handled) but I would say to get an aftermarket LSD setup if the car doesn't have it already.
