i wanna change the color of my interior to black. i've read about fabric spray paint and fabric dye. which would work better on my carpet and seats? any problems with either one? and how do they look and feel afterwards? i heard that the spray paint makes the seats hard at first, but they feel fine after breaking them in. any other info?

i went with Duplicolors fabric and vinyl paint... there are some techniques to making it not hard, and the only time it really chips is if you dig into it really hard... heres the post i had going awhile back:
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=32240&hl=

ill take some pictures of the headliner that i did, and more of the carpet since i painted over the floor mats once to make them match.

that looks pretty nice. a whole lot better than my tan and grey (from dirt and stains and what-not from previous owner). and yeah... post more pics please. now that i think about it... i might as well do my headliner to match. anyone know anything about painting/dying the seats?

I sprayed a small part of my seats black, and i didnt like the way it felt/looked...I used a small soft paint brush to keep the carpet soft and to help seap (sp) the paint in...but i couldnt do that with the seats. I just bought some leather seat covers instead. So id recommend dying them over painting.

Yea, i used the same paint on the carpet that i did on the headliner...it didnt turn out as well as my carpet...it clumped a little more and was kinda hard..but it turned out really well...i tried taking pictures, but ill have to wait until its daytime.

Sorry for the terrible pictures, i had to use my old digital camera....i went today and bought more black fabric paint to do some touch ups on some spots that needed it, and the carpet is looking great.

wow, those look awesome. i bought seat covers off ebay and had them on for about a week cuz the fitment made the seats look weird. i might consider those seat covers if i f up my seats.

Dont even bother with any sort of paint use DYE ONLY.
and just so you know colorcoat works pretty good but it is also not a dye
if you want the true dye stuff get some VHT, its mainly for vinyl and plastics, but can be used for carpet, and is a better choice than dupli-color IMO
Also if you DYE it, it will NEVER chip because it is permenantly dying the color

I dont know that id say all that... I happened to " bother" with paint, and i liked the way it turned out...In my previous experiences, dye didnt chip...but it did quickly fade. As with the paint, which doesnt fade.

i make my money by working on cars inside and out and i always use that dye that i recommended on all my cars. It has never faded or chipped and i love it because it feels just like stock. the dupli-color is nice but why risk chipping when i know for sure VHT works flawlessly at only $8 a can

will i have to take out the carpet if i use that dye? i know i have to take the carpet out to spray paint, but i'd rather not take it out if possible.

Id take it out either way. I found a 5 dollar bill under my carpet, so who knows. It would definately be better to take it out.
