I'll probably get flamed to hell and back for this, but generally drum brakes stop harder than disc brakes. The whole point of disc brakes is to effectively distribute fricition more evenly so theoretically, if you were going to ram your car around on a road course, you wouldn't suffer brake fade as quickly. But on cars with as little horsepower as ours, it's really just a silly gimmick. |

did you do other things to your st that you didnt list in your profile bc if not than i find it hard to believe that you would beat a stock gt with a short ram intake which only gives you like 3 horse power or something...someone wrote a post about it

I'm in Chicago and any time you wanna get together and show me your setup is cool with me. We'll see how well you can handle a GT. And if anything, having your gears max out at a higher mph would have a detrimental effect. Shorter gears are better for acceleration; hence the whole point of six speed transmissions. |

QUOTE(Batman722 @ Mar 26, 2006 - 5:56 PM) OK this is getting dumb guys.... I have a 95 ST and a 95 GT. all of the "little things" the ST doesn't have that the GT does can be added to the ST easily. The ST was made to be an economical vehicle - less hp, less standard options, getter mileage. The GT is the "sports" model with most of the standard options and hp. My ST and my GT have all of the options available for 1995 BTW. if you are upset that your ST is slow or doesn't have options or whatever, either buy a GT or upgrade your ST. It is as simple as that. for the record, I like driving my ST (w/header) better than my GT (stock)...why ? here we go... the responce from my ST is better than the GT, my ST cloth seats are more comfy than my GT leather, my ST is quieter than my GT. I know my RPM band better in my ST, I know exactly what it can do and what I can do with it. The GT seems to me to rev too high... when it is all said and done, just relax and drive your car. edit: both have all options available except A/T ![]() Okay. If all incoming readers read the WHOLE thread then you would know that things WERE going out of hand but I threw in a corny joke to try to diffuse the whole thing. I love the CELICA period. The whole point of the thread was that ST owners were tired of hearing how slow their cars were. Thats it. Now can we all just get along? |

What the hell, I'll throw in my .02 dollars too.
I would like to start by saying... our cars are some of the slowest sport compact cars on the market. For the size, our cars are significantly heavier (I think a honda civic four door is still a couple hundred lbs lighter). Aftermarket parts are more readily available for MANY other cars - and are compairitively rare for ours. Furthermore, there's only one or two engines worth upgrading to, and there's not many aftermarket parts for those either. If you're trying to build a car for racing, there's certainly better chassis to start with. That said - I love my ST. It's a daily driver with well over 200k miles on it and counting. Our cars were built for comfortable daily driving, with a little added spunk and superior styling. The power curve in the ST was built for the road, not the track - it does what it was built to do VERY well. Because other cars get all their power in the high RPM range, I'm constantly shifting to accelerate or go uphill. Not in my ST. She's right at home humming allong at 2-3000RPM. She's well planted - even in the worst of weather conditions, and she feels light on her feet. I slide into the cockpit of my little ST and EVRYTHING I need is within arm reach. I don't need to lean over to reach my sterio / heater / AC. The egronomics are SO superior to anything in it's price range. And, my car may be 10+ years old, but the styling is still great... unlike some other cars built 10+ years ago. Dear ST, You're not the fastet car on the road, but I still love you. ~J~ |

In fact I kinda wish I had one... or GT hatchback cuz I wouldnt have a problem at all with exerterior styling cuz pretty much EVERYTHING is made for the hatchback AKA ST mainly... I really dont get why people bash on the ST also... I mean the GT aint much better... Oooh 5 more hsp big friggen whoop... Oooh more power options in the interior big deal... But whatever... I never bashed them cuz all Celicas are just Celicas to me... ![]() -------------------- ![]() 2003 Nissan Murano SE |

wow....this is the biggest non-sense on the boards....
who cares if you have an ST or a GT or a swap its a celica for goodness sakes... we're all slow relative to other cars and there are other cars slower then us....this arguement is retarded end of story basically this just sounds like your running in the special olympics....even if someone wins this...your still retarded... BTW if you want someone to stupid believe you about a 16.1 sec run in an ST with "performance modifications" (sorry plugs and wires don't count) all i see is you have an exhaust...your "performance chip" was some ebay thing from what i can tell...which = some resistor that does nothing but waste fuel...SOOOOO if you want someone to believe you PROVE IT and POST A TIME SLIP...you get one at the end of each run.... i doubt your run...so please post up a time slip cause i'd be interested in it actaully happening since i've been to the track on..light weight 14s, completely STRIPPED interior, full exhaust, cold air intake and short shifter(if you can call this "performance") i ran a 17.3 consistant soo i'm interested and please post up a slip of proof... |

lets give detail into that chip
a) its just a resistor from radioshack in a nifty little box b) it inputs more fuel into you cylinders making your a/f run rich |

well, i'll add my opinion to this silliness. i've had 7 celicas. (4 current in bold) an 85 gt-s, an 86 st, an 88 gt-s, an 88 alltrac, a 90 gt, a 90 alltrac, and a 94 st. all 5-speeds. now, in my opinion they've all been rather slow. the quickest one i've had was the 88 alltrac at 10-11psi. the 85 gt-s was piggish cuz it needed worked on and was too heavy, the 86 was rather slow but fun as heck(mock the 2se if you wish but it has decent torque, and the st was very light), the 88 gt-s was slow i think something's wrong with it to be so extremely slow (or maybe the 3sge is just that in need of torque), the 90 gt was quicker but the weight gain compared to the 4th generation was noticeable and made it less fun to me than my 86 st. the 90 alltrac is mostly stock so pretty slow and the weight is terrible. so now we come to the 94 st. basically ever since i bought it i thought maybe something was wrong with it because it seemed so slow. but there's not. it's quick enough for regular driving, and you can have fun once you get up to speed and take it through the corners fast with it's nice handling...but in terms of acceleration, i might be able to outrun it on foot ![]() all things considered, if i compare the 90 gt to my 94 st (since the 90 had the 5sfe) i'd say the difference would be small enough that it's absolutely pointless to be bickering about one 6th gen being so much slower than the other...unless you've got a st205, or a 3sgte swap. and even then...a celica is a celica. love em all. except the automatics ![]() ![]() -------------------- -1994 celica st 5-speed- stock (sold)
-2000 celica gt-s 6-spd- mostly stock |
