its a 96GT. The strut is sitting weird on the driver side. Sits at like an angle. The cars not lowerd, i do have some camber correctional bolts from the past because the car was lowerd. Could this the problem, im not sure becuase the passenger side is fine with the camber correction bolts. Can anyone take a guess what the problem is or what needs to be replaced. Im getting new tires and an aligment tomarrow also.

doesnt look like its been installed correctly. take it out and make sure strut isnt blown, the bearing is ok, the spacer is there,it should be seated perfectly centered

I was trying to avoid that, but i guess i will. I didnt want to rent some spring compressors. The strut is ok, not blown. About it sitting properly, ill have to take a look.

ok look dont take it apart....just turn the top. you got it in the wrong way it has to set in the exact way u took it out. you should have marked it some where. did u do that????? just take off the top 3 bolts and spin the top untill its the way it should be there is only 2 other ways for it to go.

i learned that white out is a great marking tool when aligning stuff. mark the top of the triangle, its suppose to face you when installing.

Hey Sugarfree, I had this same problem about 2 months ago. I thought it was a blown shock, but it wasn't. My friend took a look at it and we took the whole strut assembly out. There was no sign of bearing damage or a blown shock.
When you look at both bolts, is the one that's not centered not flush to the strut opening? Meaning is that bold sticking out of that tower? The one that's centered should be flush. The bolt just wasn't tightened enough causing the bolt to just turn when we tried to tighten it prior to removal. So all we did was just take out the assembly and retightend it and when we put it back on the bolt was recentered. No spring compressors needed. Hope this helps. -Christee- |
