So ok, i made a goal for my self a few weeks back, and ive started to work on it. My goal is i wanna be the fastest N/A, no spray, non-swaped (i.e. 3sgte, 3sge, beams, 20V, 4agze, etc.. original type of motor..jdm or not) 6th gen in my province. Right now there arent to many celis out there, and i dont think any one on this site from ontario goes 2 the track too often. So, i have my exhaust done, my intake is gettin revamped soon, my headers are on, so i was thinking...maybe next thing to do would be fuel management. I talked to one of my friends and he said an SAFC2 would b a quick easy way of controlling it. My question is, on a stock internal JDM 5s, would a SAFC be worth while?? would it allow me to controll how much power i could produce at all?? Im very interested, but dont wanna spend a crap load of $ on a full piggy back system like an E-manage or a megasquirt. And please dont post useless crap on here sayin "ur cars not gonna b that fast" or "thats a stupid goal" or n e crap like that.

It can be useful, but also very dangerous. I would get a fuel pressure regulator & gauge in conjunction with this. With those 2 things you might see a nice gain and help in yoru power curve.

already planned that..i didnt wanna over fuel and grenade my motor. If i did use the afc, i would program it to have a bigger power curve, but still be pretty mild. If i can get an extra 15 or 20 ponys out if it, good enough for me. Set one setting to have for hittin the track, program another to save gas on the highway.

Your not going to grenade it with too much fuel; its the lack thereof which is going to destroy it. And those are high expectations, might wanna expect less than that.

You might have already thought of it but to go faster it would be good to get ride of some weight from the car, remove the back seats, spare wheel excess plastic panels etc, I went as far as taking the carpet out, it felt like the car was faster (thats using the seat of the pants meter)

on the 5s, you will use the SAFCII to pull fuel, not add it, the factory tune is a little bit on the rich side up top.
you'll prolly gain 8-10whp.
you do NOT need a fuel regulator for ANY reason for what little bit of adjustment you'd be making with the SAFC.

^ I disagree and I wouldnt mess with the car's fuel w/o one, that SAFC makes me hella nervous.

why, erik?
ive tuned the 5s with the safc.
lowering base pressure and adding really isnt gonna help at all on the 5s, especially with our ecus.

i set the A/F reference line @ 13:1 there.
from 2-4k its already pretty lean and effecient, and theres not much to pull out up top.
from experience, you can remove ~1 point of fuel with ~3-5% correction with the SAFCII,
you can get a really nice fuel line with under 10% correction on our cars, which turns into maybe 2* of timing, which is totally save on regular gas in our cars.
if you turn down the base pressure, all you'll be doing is hurting the atomization of the fuel, and by adding fuel, youll be retarding timing, and loosing power.
its not at all like the 3sgte when it comes to tuning with the SAFC.
now, if we WERE talking 3s, i would agree with you. but for the 5s, no.
not exactly what valo has in mind. wink.gif

*edit for pic

if you want to go the N/A route, you will need to be very anal about everything. Shave weight off here and there will add up. Complete port and polish and alot of heat sheild wraping around the intake, header, exhaust. You will need to run high octain and advance timing.

im not gonna go port n polishing..im not really feelin spendin 2 much $ on motor work considering i just spent close to $2k on gettin my new motor swapped in.

so your thinkin 8-10whp manny? good enough for me. you say no regulator, but what about monitoring fuel pressure??

and sammyr, my car is a daily driver, so im not gonna go as far as rippin out the carpets, but when i hit the track, ill probably remove the sub, tools, rear seats, spare and maybe passangerside seat. Im gonna do some weight reduction. but not rip my entire car apart.

whats the need for monitering fuel pressure?
you wont make more hp then the injectors are good for in n/a form.
IMO a aftermarket fuel regulator and pressure gauge is totally usless on a N/A 5sfe with the level of mods your talking about.

Hehe mine was kind of enforced, had a soggy footwell. I took all the carpets out to dry them took about three weeks, I did get sick of the noise after a while but it was fun for a bit The above measures should work well enough as far as weight loss for the track
