The Sky is to a Solstice what a Firebird was to a Camaro. A higher class version. About the Motor, that GM Ecotec 4 is a helluva motor. The stock bottom end on that thing has already proven to support upwards of 700 HP. It's a freaking tank. And I just saw a Sky on the road a couple of days ago (a perk of living just a couple hours from the plant in DE where the Solstice/Sky are built). It was a steel blue with a tan top (didn't go well), and dang sexy. The STOCK bottom end of the ecotec can handle upwards of 700hp? For how long? 0.9 seconds before all four rods shatter? Ya sure there's not some internal upgrades going on there? I'm not doubting it can handle a lot; I've heard some impressive things about it, but 700hp seems a little high. I have an uncracked aftermarket rod for a smallblock dodge sitting right here that's good for about 800 ponies and I think it's a little more stout than what they put in a cavalier: Well, don't quote me 100%, but if I remember right, that Saturn Ion that GM was using at the Bonneville Salt Flats for high speed runs I do believe had a stock bottom end ecotec in it. If it wasn't stock, it was fairly near it. Either way those things are VERY stout. -------------------- |

The new Car and Driver has an article about the Sky. They give it a good review for looks and handling but complained about power, some poorly placed interior pieces, the manual top which requires the driver to be out of the car to operate, and the lack of storage space. They predicted the Sky Redline would retail for about $28,000 this fall.

Ecotecs take a great deal of punishments. Back home there are a few Saab Viggens and a few Cobalts putting down serious numbers...at the wheels and at the track. I wouldn't mind slapping an Ecotec in my Celica.
