I have a 94 GT and it is making a crazy growling noise from the front drivers side. One mechanic said that I need new tires and that was what causing all the noise. I really dont think that it would sound like metal on metal also when I turn at low speeds the axle will make a click or popping sound. I had already replaced the wheel bearing and drivers side axle about 6 months ago.
![]() I have the following tools. 55pc tool set Pipe for leverage Liquid wrench Tool box full of various tools 2 ton jack Jack stands From what I have read on here I will need race bearing removal tool 33mm Socket Scan Diagram of the front drivers side stearing system (Axle + Wheel bearing exploded) Any Info that would guide me that would be great... Thanks in advance I dont have any power/air tools.. can this been done by hand? ![]() This post has been edited by Celi94bk: May 5, 2006 - 10:48 PM |

you're going to need the new bearing pressed into the knuckle, which you'll probably just need to take the whole knuckle to a machine shop. Also you'll probably have to replace the hub, typically if the bearing has been making a lot of metal on metal sound the hub is all screwed up.
I just did my driver's side bearing and axle. Did the axle myself and took the knuckle and hub off the car to a machine shop, they pulled the bearing and pressed the new one onto the new hub in the knuckle. $125 for new hub from Toyota $50 for new bearing and seals $35 for machining fees I took it home, put it all on the car, and wallah! You're replacing the same side that was just done 6 months ago? -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

I Had the bearing replaced about 6 months ago. and the axle replaced with a junk yard one about 3 months ago. It really sounds like a growl with poping when making sharp low speed turns. Im just thinking that the shop that put the bearing in did a really ****ty job. |

Do you have the part number for that hub? front drivers side gt manual I don't have the part number. When I called the Toyota dealer in town they needed my VIN to verify the type of hub I needed, just to make sure that it was a GT Manual non-ABS hub. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT
