I'll have to look into this a little more. I'll jump the first plug by the fire wall again. The funny thing is I dont have any other plugs except the AC pump plug.

Now that I type this I remember a loose plug in front besides the AC plug.

Could you guys give me a wire color break down on the rad temp sensor plug ?

Thanks for the help. And another great thread !

i would if i was home but im back at school.

theres two groups of wires over on the passenger side of the engine bay though IIRC. one coming from the relay box, one in that loom from over the block , to the alternator, a/c, etc.

im pretty sure its gonna be coming out of that relay box, but its definitly on the passenger side of the engine bay.

Erik, did you completely remove your AC ? Do you still have the pump plugged in ?

i just looked at my plug today. its a 2 wire plug with white and blue (with black stripe?) wires on it. it is located on the bottom of the radiator on the passengers side.

In theory, if I jump both these plugs the fans should work properly.

What do you guys think ?

no, if you jump the radiator temp sensor, the fan will never come on . you need a raditor with a temp sensor. if that dont fix it, you need to jump the wire erik posted.

it depends on what kind of signal the ecu is expecting from the radiator temp sensor

that sensor tells the ecu when the radiator is hot enough to warrant fans, if you jump it the fans will stay off.

this begs the question as to how the 7afe ecu knows when to turn the fans on without this sensor.

This make perfect sense. I'd like to find another way, if not. I'll have to put in a GT radiator with the temp plug.

With out a sensor there is no indication for the fans to kick on to start cooling

Ok, the sensor in the radiator measures the water temp. Once the water gets to hot the sensor sends a signal to turn the fans on. Without the sensor there the fans are constantly running in a safty mode due to a failed radiator sensor.

The reason our fans are always running is because we (ST's) do not have this sensor.

err sorry I should have clarified, I knew all that, I wonder how the ST knows when to turn these fans on if it does not have a temp sensor on the radiator.

Are the fans always on in a normal ST?

for the st the sensor is located in coolant housing below distributor and
contains a single-pin connector with a Blue/Black wire.

You guys are funny.... thinking of all kinds of ways to rewire and swap rads out when you dont have to.

The temp switch on an ST is under the distributor!
the temp switch on a GT is in the bottom of the rad!
The ST rad is smaller than a GT rad and the GT rad is smaller than the alltrac rad so if you put 2 and 2 together... i wire it to run all the time to prevent overheating! If you are doing some hard driving the ST rad might not be able to cool the water fast enough and cause overheating since it is not meant for that kind of powerful motor.
