car shuts off sometimes after shifting to nuetral Options

ok so sometimes ill be driving and i guess if my rpm is above like 2-3000 in gear when i shift to nuetral the rpm's drop fast and the car shuts off, it fires right back up but its annoying..

also i think related to this is that sometimes in nuetral if i rev it in my driveway or something it iwll rev up, dip below 800 rpms then come back up to idle

art suggested vacuum leak and i believed him but i cant find one now that i have fixed my leaky BOV, does anyone know what else this might be?


also my motor seems to shake sometimes at idle, my motor mounts are new so the only possibility is that they are loose, another sign that points to loose motor mounts is sometimes when i shift from first to second i can hear something clink like faintly, kind of like something on the motor hitting the firewall or somethign because the motor is moving.

anyone have an idea for these things?

i changed my spark plugs today, NGK BKR7E's gapped at .28 like art told me, the spark plugs in the motor were really black on the ends, does this mean they were fouled?

i could stall my car with my bov. is your recurculating or open atmosphere
if it dump to the outside then thats how you are stalling by confusing you ecu.

open atmosphere, how do i go about avoiding it? shift in advance so that im it doesnt go BOV-shift-stall?

is this also what is causing my car when rev in nuetral to drop below idle then jump back up?

Man, my Supra would do that too...it would die when shifting to neutral...so I had to keep feathering the throttle while braking. I think it was the AFM.

make a boost leak tester. find all the leaks and fix them and the problem will go away. mine never stalls.

no. black plugs are a good thing on a turbo car.

what about rusty red colored plugs?

Sometimes when you run good fuel *mixture, it'll look like that.

and are you sure yours wont do this? mine only does it if im like, pressing the throttle and speeding up and then all of the sudden need to stop , so i shift into nuetral and my bov blows off and then it dies. maybe you are just a better driver than us? lol

you have a boost leak or the bov is the problem...either way its a leak. im telling you...my car NEVER does this, but it used to when i had a major leak in my ic piping. my bov is vented out ...not recirculated.


i just got done making a boost leak tester for my car. 1 can of tuna fish, and one valve stem. started inflating the system and couldnt get more then 2psi on my boost gauge. i shut the air comp off and i could hear a loud hiss..... took me a while to find it, but it turns out one of my power steering hoses has a crack in it and is leaking!!! boost leak testers rock!!! ( and so does the opima battery thats been powering the air compressor for a good 30min and it still hasnt run out of juice!)

hmm i've got the hks vented to atmosphere as well and not once has this happened to me. tho the first month after the swap my car did shut off sometimes (and then eventually wouldnt start) but that was with a wiring issue i had fixed.

yeah...thats it. anything that is 3in OD will work. i had some home depot caps i bought that said "3in " but ended up being 3 1/2 OD and would fit..grrr so i ended up looking around the house for something that would work

get a spray bottle and fill it with soapy water. spray it in the places you think you hear a leak and youll see tons of bubbles show up.

so after fixing my big vac/boost leak.... i found another one! the adjustment nut and bolt on the back of the bov leaks! some teflon tape should fix it.

soooo the AFM is gunna say hey ECU i have more air than i really have but i dont know that so im gunna send a bunch of fuel to match that air. OH SNAP that air isnt there so im gunna run pig rich and bog you out potentally stalling you. word.

yes in a way your right... but with the hks bov, you shouldnt have this problem. because of its design, it can close fast enough not to cause you any issues like that, while still being vented. so there must be a leak somwhere in his setup or the knock off ssqv isint working right.
