so for you east coasters out there you probably know what im talking about when i say MIR (maryland international raceway) but incase you dont it won like track of the year this year or last year or something and that show PINKS is hosted at it, were a redneck town, lots of muscle cars.

so i go to the shop that most of the hotrod guys get there exhaust done at (it is a mr tire, but specializes in custom exhaust)

the guy said "its not crush bent but it will still have ripples on the metal" whatever that means, and he wanted 270 bucks to bend/weld it up even though i was supplying the downpipe, cat, flex pipe, and muffler..

so i think what i am going to do is buy the necessary mandrel bends and then take it back to him and have him use his own straight pipe.

rant aside, does anyone know what mandrel bends i might have to order in order for everything to fit properly?

did anyone else have a hard time finding a shop local to them that did mandrel bends?

oh yeah teh guy also said "i dont know any shops around here that have mandrel machines"

most shops unless they are HUGE will not have a mandrel bender.
you have to bring them the bends, and have them cut and weld them together for you.

i've never seen/heard of an exhaust shop without a mandrel bender.

especially these days with all the 3" mandrel bent exhausts going on imports and the like.

oh well. buy the bends and maybe even a couple of meters of straight pipe and take it all to him....

good luck

yea most shops have compression benders...not really bad but still not as smooth as mandral since the diameter changes in the bend and its not really good for anything above 45*
JCwhitney has really cheap aluminized steel mandral bends

I would think that if you did an under-axle like Manny, Jeff, or Art that the design wouldn't require alot of bends, thus the need for mandrel-bent piping. The under-axle design looks very straightfoward and bendless.

www.rctperformance.com have a mandrel bend machine. it's in nyc but i know a few MD. guys that made the trip for some work.

they make one clean pipe with flanges, they don't "lego" pipes together.
