I was driving to work today as I normally do almost everyday, when I accelerated at a traffic light. I shifted out of first and tried to put it in second when I first noticed the problem. It was very hard to put it in gear but as a spur of the moment thing i pushed it in. Then when I went to shift out of second it was very difficult and nearly impossible to put it in 3rd. I pulled over to a parking lot to check out the problem and decided it was the synchronization. I can drive it but in order to shift I have to match the rpm, speed, and gear.

any thoughts?

This cannot be diagnosed over the internet. I had several shifting problems over the last couple years and the best advice I can tell you is to not summarily conclude that "its the syncros". Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. There are a ton of good threads about difficulty shifting and things you can try. Also, go look at mr2oc.com. They have some great threads too. Good luck.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

chances are, more than one syncro wont fail at the exact same time, check
things like the clutch, linkage, slave and master cylinder first.

well usually it is the syncros if he has to match engine speed with car speed and ect. it could be that or somehting is mesing with the shifter cables.

well that i dont know, i doubt its the syncro cause the syncro's are susposed to help make shifting easier.

ps: hey look we joined 6gc the same day lol

actually the syncros do the actual shifting by locking the gear into place on the gear shaft, so if you have all
all gears but one, its probably something related to that syncro/gear or possibly a linkage problem.

I have wiring under my shift boot and i was having difficulty shifting, and SPDT relay got lodged between my cables. Check for stupid stuff like that, you never know.

took it to a friend's transmission shop and found out that i blew a spring out of the clutch disk and there was little to no clutch material left on the disc... so it was time for a new one. Now with the new clutch everything feels so much better. Shifting is smoother, the clutch throw feels good, and driving is so much better

If your good with tranny work go for it. I find that trannys are 10X harder than engines.
