I've had my Celica for a long time now, and I've had my radar detector for a long time to. I think it's nice I set it up better than just plugged into the cig lighter. I was thinking of mounting it up by the rearview mirror, but I don't know how it would work up high as compared to down low. I'm not sure how the radar system works. Since I live in WV, there are a lot of hills here, and that makes me think that mounting it higher will let me now about cops setting just over the hills, like the do. Any suggestions on were to put it or how to wire it up would be great. Oh yeah, I was going to try to find a hot wire that works only when the car is on (sunroof wire), to wire it too so I could hide the wires while mounting it up next to the mirror.

I'm not sure either.. but I know the booklet that came with my cobra said to mount it as low as possible on the dash without anything obstructing it... but I do know a few people that have mounted it up high. Just mount it both and test it a few days and let us know the difference! smile.gif

It doesn't quite seem like it's picking up as much up high. I'm going to have to bring it back down. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'll look at the companies site to see what they recommend.

open the sunroof and slap it on top... j/k
i use one of those sticky pieces for the dash and lay it on that, doesnt slide, sits still..on the windshield it would flap around making too much noise.

Do what I did with my Sirius reciever for the radar detector-

Plug in the cigarette lighter power supply, and then using a wire tester find which of the two leads on the cord is the positive 12V and which is ground. Then break out the soldering iron and tap into your choice of 12V power sources. I chose to use the cigarette lighter positive and ground connections and then i ran the wires totally out of sight. If I were you I'd mount it on the dash, then feed the wires through the vent, and snake it out before it reaches the mechanical parts of the vent system.

Look in my profile for pictures of the final result.

I've done some reading and it seems as though you want it mounted were it can "see" everything. Just as I have had it for 2 years. I guess I picked the perfect place by luck. Now, I am going to try to do like Silver says and snake the wires through the vent system to hide them. The biggest thing was hiding the wires. I wanted to hide the radar detector itself, but I don't think I can. One way or another, I'll get it mounted somewere nice.

mine has a forward reciver and rear reciever to pick up the radar signals so i have always had mine halway up the windshield below the rear view, so it can scan out the back window as well..

last week (after owning it and having it like that for a year) i moved it up to the left of the rear view where it is higher, and i like it a lottttt better up there, it seems to work the same as well. I was planning on running the wires behind the headliner and A-pillar to the fuse where i would ground and tap a power source.

let us know how yours turns out biggrin.gif

haha...im going to call corey Silver now

ok ok, i'll say something related to the topic...

mines mounted so it "sees" just over my windshield wipers, cause i think my wipers are abnormally high. it has an antenna for the rear but i dont think it can see out the back...but i dont want to mount it right in the middle of the windshield, that seems annoying

Silver, word up. lol

Good luck with the wiring, if you mount it where it worked best and then just clean up the wiring you'll be golden.
