Its been all over the news now for awhile. The tensions are so high right now between the Isralies and Lebanon (Hazbohalla). They are having to evacuate all those Americans out of Lebanon and CNN has been in Cyprus the past couple days reporting. Whats goin on over there and where are you guys at in Cyprus? Im pretty sure something is going to happen with Israel and American is going to go to war again very soon.

A buddy of mine in the U.S. Air Force talked to me via sattelite phone the other day, and his squadron was awaiting word whether or not they would be deployed to Cyprus. He sounded pretty bummed about it, it was about 2am in the morning over there and he was wide awake and nervous waiting to hear what was going to happen.
I haven't heard anything yet, but I told him that there were some beautiful Celicas to enjoy in Cyprus in case he gets deployed....he's huge into imports so I figured it might cheer him up a little. In lieu of the situation, I hope that everything can be peacefully resolved somehow and the crisis can be avoided. I, like many Americans, really don't enjoy seeing our country (and even worse, our soldiers) getting involved in the thick of so many volitile situations around the world, especially in a problem that roots back thousands of years and is beyond our influence. Not to make this a political thread, but I hope that peace can be reached without yet another unwanted conflict. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

Well guys, Cyprus as the closest country to the region and due to the fact that we have 2 british military bases on the island, we are used as a first stop for people fleeing the area. As the israelis bombed the airports in Libanon, the only way out is by sea. So a couple of cruise ships are used by various countries to get foreigners out of the region and they bring them to Cyprus where they can get on a flight from the local airports.
I do not know about you guys but i think that something has been already decided. My belief is that the Israelis got the OK from the USA to do whatever the hell they want and just went ahead and bomb them. If they dare to mess with Syria and Iran as well then I really fear that we will witness a true war with thousands of deaths and not the b.s. war the U.S. made in Iraq. Libanon and Palestinians may not really have any weapons but the Syria and Iran have fully equipped armies and so far not even the U.S. dared to provoke them in such a way that would lead to military forces being deployed. Unfortunately, for once more the Cypriots are fcked as this will have a serious impact on tourism in Cyprus which is our largest source of income. |

I made travel arrangements for a family to move out here from Lebanon in 2 weeks because they are coming to work for the company i work for. but they had to flee the country and had to get an early flight and are now here. They have nothing but the clothes they had packed. Kinda sad.
One of hte principals from my work is from lebanon and his parents came out early to visit cuz of whats going on and they want to go back but hes telling them that they can not go back right now. Its sad that this is happening :-( I had a dream about Lebanon last night and that all the buildings were being imploded and i woke up crying. -------------------- Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City

Libanon and Palestinians may not really have any weapons but the Syria and Iran have fully equipped armies I'm first generation American. my parents and their respective families came from iran. yea, they have a fully equiped army, and its pretty big considering every boy that gets to be a teenager is conscripted/drafted into the army. its actually why my dad's family immigrated here in the 1950's, he was about that age where he would have to go into the army. my mom's family came over in the 1960's because of the political climate so yea good sized and equipped army but oh man, some of the stories i have heard about how the soldiers are trained are hilarious. i have a friend that was drafted to fight in the iran-iraq war. his training was basically this. they sent him to one of the edges of the front, where there was less action, gave him a gun and said the enemy is that way as they pointed in the direction of iraq. his "training" lasted 2 weeks, after which he was given 4 days of R&R, then he was to go to the main part of the war for an undisclosed amount of time. needless to say he and his family packed up and came to America in those 4 days. one of the attack methods he was taught was this: take a dirt bike and put two people on it. one guy drives, the other holds a bazooka. charge the enemy, get as close as u can, fire the bazooka then come back and repeat the process pretty much the only thing that makes the iranian army forceful is that the people in charge dont care how many men they lose. unfortunately, that mentality/policy usually makes for a very bloody war. to ad fuel to the fire, Israel is surrounded by countries that would love to see Israel conquered. because of this, like a cornered animal, they always snap at any movement against them. they have a very well equipped and trained army, and like Iran, everyone goes into the army at some point in their life, damn near all of them are trained to fight. i hope there isnt a full scale war. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

Watching the news last night, there are only a few countries that Isreal could give 2 ****s about, Palastine, Iran and Syria. They have peace agreements with Egypt and lebanon. You can put some blame on Israel for doiung this, but then you can put the blame on the USA too. THey are following what we did. Isreal seems to be really pissed that the lebanese gov't doesn't seem to want to get rid of the Hezbollah group.
Either way its another war in the middle east and it seems that peace will not happen there while most of us are alive. |

First and Second, its a forum not english class. Get a life. Third, Really! You know your 3rd grade geography! Nice work! Fourth, There has been threat to Isreal since the biblical times. Iraq has nothing to do with it Fifth. The Bush administration is the biggest joke since the Ford administration. At this point it really wouldnt surprise me if we go to war again. Word.
