QUOTE (ZGear @ Feb 14, 2010 - 2:17 AM) *
Sup homies!

Been a while since I logged on. Short story, regardless of the situation, motor & transmission swap is needed this summer or fall. I've narrowed it down to the Blacktop and the 3s. Yes Will, you're right about my initial plans. "What's the point of swapping in another 7a?"

I've contemplated over and over, night after night and I've decided to go Blacktop. It cost just as much if not a bit less than a 3S, but cheaper/easier to install. Kinda within my budget range once I save up. Also I'm not the flashy guy who wants everyone to look at the 3S motor in my engine bay and drool. I was in love with the 7a and I know I'll be in love with the 4A.

Plus I like the idea of ITBs at high revs and a solid swapped 4a then a cheaply swap 3s. Like they all say, once you survive your first motor swap it gets easier and easier. Maybe down the road I'll have courage to take on the 3S. Unless you guys can convince me.

Having owned both a 20v Blacktop with ITBs and a 3sgte, I can honestly tell you my truthful opinion. The 3sgte is a very addicting engine, you will floor it at almost every chance you get, it's very hard to not be in boost because that little ct26 spools very early, you will love every second of that turbo spool and PSHHHHHH BOV, believe me you, it's a very addicting engine.

The 20v Blacktop, however, on the other hand has been the only engine that can tame my addiction. Because I shift at around 3,000 rpms for daily driving, it literally feels like i'm driving a regular 4afe or 7afe, reducing that crave for throttle. But deep inside, I know that once I hit 5,000 rpms, it will take off like a bullet. It's like feeling, a feeling of knowing you have something special, and can control it. I prefer this over the 3sgte.

The 20v Blacktop is a lot more fun, but the 3sgte is faster. The 20v Blacktop can be fast, but in my opinion you have to know what to do with it.

I wouldn't want Ger driving around with a 3sgte anyway, because the man floors it every where he goes. Sooner or later he'll be swapping axles left and right.

Coming from a man who's gone through 5 different cars and 3 different celica motor set-ups.

Hahahaha.....turbo in backpack. Kinda like Joe's thing. "Where's your turbo?" "Oh, it's in my trunk along with my gauges and misc parts."

As far as the 7AG, I have thought about it as well, but for now I'll settle with the blacktop. When it's done with slight mods I would like to get into building a 7AG on the side.

Glad to here this, Ger.

In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt to pull the old motor and start parting it out. (make way for the new one and get some extra cash) You could save the block in case you want to build a 7age in the future..

I can't wait, I've always wanted to do one of these!

Its not special revving at a stand still. Its when you open up the throttle and ripping through the gears is when you cream your pants.

No, I sent it to DG, BUT like I have told Ger and Greg, I would have done it on my own. After tinkering around and wiring a bunch of things up, I am confident I can get a conversion harness done. I told Ger i would do his for him.

Hey guys,

I went to the U-Pull in Rosemount yesterday, lots of goodies to report.

Only one 6th gen, a 95 st coupe, auto. Still mostly intact. I grabbed a few parts from it, and I'm going back for the airbags and headlights.
About 10-12 5th gens, gt, st, autos, manuals..
A beautiful AE92 GTS 5-speed, with a still complete 4age (tvis)
A 95ish 5-speed camry coupe (I'm taking the complete 5-speed swap)
20+ other camrys and corollas..

Nathan, you might want to tell David that they have a 1g GSX identical to his, still completely untouched.

I'm going again in a few days, let me know if you guys need anything, or want to tag along.
