Sadly, the latter.

Luckily I'm not the only one to encounter these things.
Found this through google:

"(07/18/2006) THE UFO IN MY BACKYARD
Please, help me! What is this thing? It scares me and I have been afraid to go in my backyard with my daughter. There was one in my backyard last year and now this one showed up and for some unknown reason, maybe some divine intervention, it died nicely on my back porch so that I could take pictures of it! Please, please, what is it? Please note: I can hear it coming from inside the house. like an airplane. I am anxiously awaiting your response. Thank you! Thank you!

Cicada Killers, are NOT aggressive like the yellow jacket, wasp and honeybee.... although it is in the Wasp family. I'm with you, I hate the fuggin fuggers, which is why I used to flood their nest (they burrow in the ground) with water, which really did nothing but provoke them to build a new one

yeah they average 1.5" - 2" long. They're about the size of your little finger. And I don't think setting my lawn on fire or taking a shotgun to it would be a good idea, living in a residential neighborhood. They aren't aggressive unless you piss them off. And accidentally running over their burrows (in the ground) seems to do the trick.

some people are allergic to them, I have a friend that was in the hospital for lke 2 weeks just for one of those. So if you don't know if you're alleric or not next time try to scream louder and run faster smile.gif you don't wanna find out.

They live under the ground, so you can't shoot it at them in there. And trying to spray one while it, and 60 others are trying to attack you is damn near impossible.

hmmmm gas is pretty expensive and burns too long you need a quick burn that goes out fast.... alcohol??? idk but if flooding them w/water doesn't work then the must be killed by fire

any of those bastards escape the fiery blaze use jdg371's flame thrower and ANNIHILATE them

go 2 home depot or a similar store, they have basically RAID that works like fertilizer, you just throw it around your yard and let it do its job, I forgot what it was called but it had a picture of fireants and bee's on it.
