Hey guys.. need advice please!
I was repainting some of the engine parts last night for a show today, Repainted the valve cover, and a few of the fuse box covers.. well when I get back in the car the next morning.. it won't start. No click or anything. We thought it might be a dead battery, so we try jumping it but still nothing. Headlights come on and look bright so I think battery is fine. We then figure its the starter, so we pull it out and go to Advance Auto and they check it, say its bad. So I replace it. But still.. nothing. Then I noticed my Viper alarm isn't working at all.. looks like it has no power. So I find the wires that run to the ignition and find one for Starter Output, unplug that and still .. nothing.. so now i'm at a loss. If anyone knows what it could be or a way to help find the problem. PLEASE let me know! Thank you all! check the fuses maybe one of them loose from you opening the cover; or the wires coming out of the fuse box , that happens to me on my 1987 GT.

Update..
checked some fuses, found the 30amp AM2 fuse is blown (under the hood in right side panel) Stuck another in and it blew. Not sure what all that powers but at least its a start... any ideas or clues, let me know! Thanks! -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

did the new fuse blow when the ignition was in the off positon? if so then there is a short to ground somewhere between the fuse and ignition switch

If your AM2 is blowing, which would definitely keep your car from starting, check the distributor and coil. |

Well my friends dad just came over and helped me do some more tests.. we found that the short is somewhere after the ignition switch but is not in the distributor or the ignitor. All thats left on the circuit is a "noise filter" but we couldn't find that to test it. If its not that, then we are assuming its an actual short in the wire somewhere..
![]() ![]() does anyone know where the noise filter is located? have a pic of it? Thanks! This post has been edited by Jaws4God: Aug 20, 2006 - 4:26 PM -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

I believe it's a small box bolted to the dr strut tower.
It's tiny. Like 1" x 1". Has 2 wires going into it. It's grounded to the chassis. It might not be there, I'm not as familiar with the th gens. -------------------- ![]() |

Well i found the problem..
when i put my valve cover on, I accidently pinched one of the injector wires.. and when the engine tried to crank, the cam gear exposed the wire and grounded it... so now its starts up fine. thank you all for your help! -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

Well I drove it today for the first time since the starter problem.. but now it wants to stall when I put the clutch it. And I noticed when I shift gears the tach drops quickly.... Any ideas?
When I got to work, I did move the CAI and noticed a change in the Idle RPM's.. so not sure if thats related or not... Thanks! -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

did you repair the harness well? with solder etc. does it feel like a misfire? vibrates alot and takes a while to rev up? also check for vacum leaks, maybe pop your stock airbox back in to test.

well my dad and I descovered its the clutch neutral switch.. when that is plugged in and the clutch is depressed.. it almost dies..
so for right now we rigged it up so I can push the button by hand to start.. and then it won't be pressed by the clutch when driving.. just wish i knew why it does that.. -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

maybe something to do with your cruise control being funky? might be something to look into because the clutch neutral effects the cruise control and a few other functions when depressed.
