I have a 94' Celica ST (AT200) 7A-FE (of course). My question is has any 7A owners had any problems with detonation at 15 Degree timing advance with 87 octane gas? And if anybody knows, how far of an advance could I get with 92 octane? Thanks.

i accidently had 20deg of advance (i let someone else at school play with it after i had set it) on 89 octane fuel for a while. it ran OK, but i was getting some signs of detonation. never a light and i never heard anything, but the signs were on the plugs and in the exhaust runners. dialing back to 15deg feels just the same. im going to check the plugs tomorrow ish to see if they look any better now.

search on the internet about how to read plugs, its really good information to know. you'll be able to see alot of problems on the plugs before they become magor or before other symptoms appear.
