Ok, so I want to replace the shifter on a 96 gt automatic. I took off the two screws at the front and can't pull it off. There is a black "wire harness thingy" that runs the length of the shift rod that I believe may go to the overdive on/off button. Is that the problem?? How do I remove the shifter so I can put on my new chrome one? Anyone?????

Just cut that wire and rewire it later. Problem solved.
