i installed a new deck in my car and ever since then my dash light has not been working. i checked the fuses, and im not sure if this is the right fuse but the fuse that is labeled panel was blown. it was a 7.5 mini fuse so i went and bought another one. i put it in and i start the car, and then that one blows as well. do u think it has something to do with my deck?

I had the same problem. If you look at you wiring harness closely the orange wires say positive dimmer and negative dimmer. Did you connect those 2? I did and my fuse kept blowing. Those 2 wires go to nothing just clip em and leave em.

if the fuse re-blows, then you have a short and need to fix it.

im pretty sure theyre not connected. i know there was one orange one that wasnt connected and a pinkish one... the dash light was actually working when i first connected my deck, but then later on when i was movin it around, i think thats when it blew.
phonex, do u mean just cover up the ends of the wires? bitter, how do i fix a short? |

Make sure no wires are exposed. Or that any wires are touching metal.

When i had my old car, my amp would only work when the car was moving because i had ****ty ass ground. Now with my celica, i had my friend wire my deck and he said he did it perfectly. Whenever im driving the deck works fine but when i slow down or stop it will stay on but the music will stop playing, sometimes it will just not work for hours. Also my dash lights arent working and could that be because of my ground wire? Is that connected to the same thing? Anyways im wondering, if it is my ground wire, what should i ground it to?

a short is when there is part of the wire that is exposed (in the middle or something) that is not supposed to be showing, and when it touches something metal it grounds (some wires aren't meant to be grounded)
to check for shorts have a look at all the wires and make sure there are none with a stripped spot on them somewhere, and usually yes, you can just wrap it with e-tape, or some heat-wrap. if it is bad enough you might have to run a new wire. if your probel is your ground, then re-ground it. if you take some sandpaper and sand a bolt hole down to bare metal and then screw your ground in there that works really good. |

My dash has been blown for about 2 years now. I like it! I just turn on the light in the car to check the spedometer and im always going the speed limit. I actually think it keeps me from speeding.

Sounds like a wire is exposed take out the the deck check all the wires (re tape them) then put it back in carefully making sure none of the wires become exposed while your shoving them all back in. Then replace the fuse and you should be good to go.

i had this same problem when installed my cd player, there was an exposed wire, and it got pushed up agiants the wire that gives light to the dash and melted the whole wire all the way up, and ya it kept blowing fuses, just take out the cd player and check all wires closely.. we had to cut out all the bad wire and rewire it all, it sucked.

its that 7.5 amp fuse.
replace it but before you do, make sure that yellow and white stripped wire comming from the harness is taped off so it wont touch metal by accident. problem solved This post has been edited by XS4lv1Truch0x: Oct 7, 2006 - 11:51 PM -------------------- Is this good enuff 4 ya? :D
