Ok,im planning to buy OEM sideskirts with some extensions but the SIII and OEM extensions are not what i really want. I want something similar to OEM extensions but without the extra part that goes over the bumper/fender. I did some rough shops just to give you an idea (sorry Tufy and JDog for using your car)

imagine the grey part only is the extension

imagine the pink part removed

im sure it would look really good but my question to those who have OEM extensions:

Do you think it is physically possible to cut the extra parts and mount them on the car (in other words: are the parts going over the bumper/fender really needed or they are needed because else it would not hold on the car?) Im thinking of just cutting those extra parts..

what do you think?

I have them and it seema like you would need them to make it stable. If you do it like that it will probably flop around and then get ripped off.

If you don't like the way it goes over the bumper just have them molded on. Although you will not be able to remove the bumpers after that.

worse case, i can make them going over the bumper but at the minimal height possible (like 1 inch but nothing more). Like that, i think i would be able to put 3M trip tape behind so it would hold better. I also think that the rear ones would be easier to build (you follow the rear bumper curve at the bottom end).

After just looking at front and rear extension I must say that the parts that go over bumpers are mainly to give the shape, not to mount. Extensions basically hold on the edge of those parts, if cut - one would have to change the shape of lower part for it to touch the bumper for mounting.

Bumper and extension primitive drawing below should give you the idea how they go with each other:

Yeah a smaller lip may work, as long as you have some bracing. I have considered shaving mine down aswell.
