Windows Vista, Anyone?, Need Help Options

I have Windows Vista RC2 on my laptop and I used to VPN to my company's network on Windows XP with no problem. Ever since I switched to Vista, I am unable to connect. When I try to diagnose the issue, it just goes back to the original screen. Damn, I should've waited for the final release version. Anyone know what mthe problem is?

ya i always wondered y ppl wanna mess with vista before it actually comes out. seems kinda dumb to put it on your main computer. id put it on some old computer just for the hell of it thou...

Check to make sure that the install didn't default your IP information. Make sure your IP address, Subnet, and Def. Gateway are all what they need to be. If you aren't sure what they are supposed to be contact your sys admin and find out. Also check your firewall. You may need to drop it.

that is not true, it is very ready you just have to know how to go about fixing its issues its not ready for generic users its, some of the tools are not perfect but can be made to work just fine.

I have Vista Enterprise RC1 on my laptop (as a test run before they transfer everyone in my depetment over it it) I'm using for server management and etc. what exactly does the error say I can fix it for you, at what point does give you a failed connection (if any error occurs,) from what your saying its just going into that recovery process were it says the app has stop working and windows is trying to repair etc. what are you using to vpn in, are you just trying to add it as a network connection.

basicly I need to know at what point its failing, or if its just not connecting to the vpn at all, they you probably have a bad network settings or miss typed ip etc. double check that you have the right IP, mask, gateway and your using a dns server that can find it, try using cmd to ping the ip.

make sure the ethernet card (built in or not) is enabled. Haha, that was the simple stupid problem i had with my pc at home.

I agree. Nothing wrong with my Vista RC2 as far as I see. My company is one of the biggest call centers in the U.S. I'm in my company's IT department and I import leads and maintain the dialer system so Actually, I'm embarressed to be in the IT department and unable to fix my VPN connection. That's why I don't want to ask the IS Director for help. I'm networked at home via Linksys router (just your average wireless home router... nothing fancy). When I set up the VPN connection in XP, I had set it up to dial the Bellsouth DSL connection first and it worked perfectly (not sure why I would have to connect that first if the router authenticates that connection anyway, but that's the only way it would work for me). When I switched to Vista, it tries to connect and doesn't give me an error. Just says unable to connect and when I try to diagnose the problem, it says nothing's wrong. I've tried shutting down the Windows Firewall, pinging the VPN address (it's reachable), and re-creating the VPN connection. I honestly don't know what's up with this thing! Please help. Thanks.

EDIT: I just tried connecting with my other XP PC and it worked fine. This is pissing me off! Lol.

no, im not using oncecare. i turned off all possible security settings and the uac. i pinged the vpn address using wireless connection and it was timing out every other hit. then i tried with ethernet connection and it was getting a reply everytime. either way, both methods were giving me long reply times with about 200ms, when normally on XP, I used to get about 2ms. I feel its the operating system. i shouldve partitioned my drives and kept XP on one of them but I was so damn excited about vista. lol. i know its not my router or anything. im guessing there is perhaps one setting i may be forgetting to turn off since im still learning where everything is located. lol.

Jason, if you want I can send you the RTM release, RC2 sucks, well, kinda... But I already have build 6000, the version that gets released to the manufactures.

^thanks ben. but f*ck vista! it ruined my life. lol... well, not really. but this sucks not being able to get my work stuff done from home. i think i'll wait for the final consumer release. i dunno about 6000, but 5744 blows! i got someone sending me the xp cd soon so i can just reformat and start from scratch. it was a new laptop so i didnt really have anything important on it anyway. when i get xp back on, i'll probably partition my drives and install vista on the other drive so i can just switch back and forth for w.e. thanks man.
