7afe and 4axx have the same diameter bore, stroke difference is in the crank throw. 4axx rods wont work, the crank journal on the 7afe crank is a larger diameter iirc. however 4axx pistons will work, the piston bosses have to be machined to fit the 7afe rods.

speaking of rods, its about $700 a set for 7afe rods from...i think its eagle.

An engine is an engine. The mechanics of building one is the same. Since you're going to Wyo Tech... I sure do hope you get better acquainted with the engine basics before you start making plans to build an engine.

Anyhow... 7A specs are EASY to find... as are 4A's. Basically... you cannot use 4A rods, which are too short for the deck height of the 7A block and the journals on the rods are too small for the 7A crank. No... you cannot use the 4A crank either. As for the crank... how often do you hear stories of cranks exploding under pressure? Sure cranks do get damaged... but usually from broken rods/pistons and hardly ever the crank itself. Stock 4A pistons are NOT good for 300 hp... at least not with any stock set-up or nitrous.

My advice... research.
