Took it for a test drive tonight. It's insane even without the torque converter lockup working. I don't have a 2nd gear either since the transmission is in manual mode... but with as quick as 40mph sneaks up on you I'm really excited to see what this thing can do with a fully functional transmission.

I'm going to feed the ECT ECU an IGF signal and see if that'll get it shifting. From what I've read in the troubleshooting sections is that if there is no IGF signal for 4 consecutive revolutions then the computer stops the engine... It doesn't say anything about stopping the transmission solenoid control but it would make sense that the computer would shut everything down since the engine's not supposed to be running anyway.

I don't think the neighbors would appreciate me running around the neighborhood with an open DP so I don't have any videos for you all but I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow after work when the sun is still out.

Congrats again

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

Stock Trans and Axles
92-93 (Possibly RC?) Engine, Stock but refreshed with all new seals and gaskets.
RC ECU and AFM
90-91 harness converted to 92-93 RC harness.
All new Toyota ignition components
Ceramic CT26 Turbo rebuilt by Majestic Turbo of Texas
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Open 3" SSAutocrap DP
Polyurethane filled motor mounts
A2A TMIC until I get the intake adapter to fit my ST205 IC

Locked in low boost mode until I use up this crappy gas and get an AVCR.

I need to get an air filter. What does everyone think about the AEM Dryflow filters? I hear they flow better than K&N and you don't have to oil them.

K&N do not need to be oiled either. I think virtually any air filter will do the job very comparably to other filters but wouldn't buy HKS due to oil requirement and price.

Is it normal to sound like an F16 preparing for takeoff when I close the throttle suddenly? I have no BPV so I was thinking it was compressor surge but it doesn't have that fluttering sound you usually associate with surge.

The only other thing I could think of is a stuck wastegate or defective actuator but I'm not overboosting so I'm kinda leaning towards compressor surge.

Any ideas?

Could the fact that there is no air filter or exhaust just be making the turbine noise more pronounced?

I'll try and get a sound clip for you all later.

your not using an air filter???

so is it just direct air going into your turbo??

Yeah it's been pretty rainy and wet down here so I'm not too concerned with dust right now. I don't plan on leaving it that way for too much longer though.

youve answered your own question mate.

you dont have an air filter, hence nothing muffling/blocking the noise the turbo makes. so as the turbo compressor wheel spins up to create boost and then u back off the throttle... the turbo compressor wheel will spin until it eventually looses its momentium. hence making the cool wooshing f16 sound u describe.

also i wouldnt recommend not having an air filter on, its purpose isnt only for dust, but also to stop things going in there that should ... i.e a leaf or insect, if something does go up there the turbo compressor could get wrecked... and thats expensive. get a pod filter or something asap!

Only update is that I have put 100 miles on it and filled up with 91 octane. I'm looking into dumpvalves and I need to get an intake adapter made to fit my ST205 intercooler. I'll probably try hooking up the igf wire to the ECT ECU Monday... Thanks to Marting Luther King Jr. for the day off.

Last night I verified that the wastegate and acutuator are operating perfectly normally. I should be running on 6-7psi since the TVSV is capped off... but I did overboost to 17psi the other night so I can definitively say that there is an inherent boost creep problem with free flowing exhaust and the CT26. I have an extra exhaust side for the CT26 so I think I'll start chopping away at the wastegate port and swap them out.

i dont understand this creep people are experiencing. i ran the ct26 with just a 3" DP for a while, when the sound eventually got to me i finished hooking up the exhaust. but i never experience creep to that extant. creeping to 17psi when its supposed to be at 6-7 is ALOT. a psi or 2 isnt a problem but that seems a bit extreme to me. maybe the hose that connects to the actuator has a pin hole in it or the diaphragm itself?

Did you grind out that ssautocrap pipe justin ? If not your waste gate door could be getting stuck on the flange spiking your boost.

The hose from the compressor housing to the wastegate actuator is brand new and a tight fit with new clamps. The other port is blocked off with a rubber cap and a clamp. I'm almost positive the diaphragm isn't leaking as I applied a steady 7psi to it and it held fully open for as long as there was pressure.

Yeah I made damn sure that was ground down. Too many peolple before me had that problem with this cheap downpipe. I used my extra exhaust housing as a sort of dry run to make sure that the wastegate door wasn't hitting any part of the downpipe.

I'm just as baffled as anyone else why some people have problems and others don't.

an open downpipe will make the problem worse.
some people dont even realize they creep because they dont have a peak hold boost gauge and cant keep their eyes glued to the gauge for the whole rpm range.
other people keep their cats in place, or use smaller exhausts.

Decided to put on an air filter today. Frozen condensation made the flapper door stick so the car was hard to start and wouldn't stay running without stepping on the throttle. Hopefully the filter will prevent moisture from gathering inside the AFM.
