Another question for a friend, whats this sensor? Options

Hey, my friend Mike with an MR-2 noticed this sensor in the stock exhaust piping near the turbo, the wires to it were just cut like in the picture and the owner he bought it from suspected that the previous owner may have swapped in a JDM engine. he asked me, but i wasnt sure what that was! it does kind of look like an EGT probe.

You know what this sensor is in the stock downpipe of my MR2?





I saw it when I swapped the turbo. Looks like an EGT probe or something. The wires were cut off it so I couldnt trace it back to anything, nor did I find any cut wires in the engine bay. The downpipe I bought has a bung to put this in there too.

I made a post on MR2Board, but people there are slow to respond to such newbish questions. Thought maybe you'd know

The guys from MR2board.com say that only the JDM motors have that sensor in the exhaust. I was under my car and found a cut harness about the same size as the wires from that sensor running along the rear bottom of the motor, by the oil pan. I wonder if that's where it came from?

When I got this car the guy said he suspected the person who had it before him put a JDM motor in it. I wonder if this is true now?
