has anyone replaced the package tray (tonneau cover) with a clear cover? i am installing a sub box + amp and would like to show it off. can you just have a plexi cover cut to fit or are there too many odd angles and measurements to take into consideration. should i just get rid of it? will there be too much road noise? what about esthetics. does it look neglected it there is no cover?

tips, hints and mostly opinions are welcome.

peace

I'd just take it out. Never seen anyone w/ a clear one, but I guess it's possible if you get some plexiglass, cut it to the right size and find a way to keep it up so it won't fall down on you're subs. But it's alot easier (and less risky) to just take the stock cover out and let people look in through the hatch window. Mabey get some lights around the subs/ enclosures so they are easier to see.

edit: I want to add that the plexiglass should NOT be attatched to the hatch itself, it should be stationary so when you open you're hatch, you are looking through the plexiglass. Again, I don't think it's the best route though. More for if you're car is a complete show car imo.

full agreement on the thieves thing!!! people always comment on how clean my car is, and i always tell them it's a precaution.

but it does sound like a cool mod. so if you're all about the show car, i'd cut sections out of the original, keeping the frame and maybe a 6 inch strip down the middle. then bolt a sheet of plexi-glass to the bottom of it, or maybe even a stainless steel mesh.

sorta like this:

but, y'know, when i was looking for that i found some 2-way mirror panels on the same site. and if you do that, then get lights, the sub-thieves will hopefully not be able to see it when the lights are off.
