best radar detectors for the price?

Short answer:

Drive slower.

Personal opinion:

I like/have the Escort Solo S2 - its about $350. What is awesome is that it's cordless. Nothing more annoying than a radar dector charge cord hanging around all the time. Google will yeild many reviews of different types, uses etc.

valentine 1, got to love the arrows that show where the radar is coming from and the counter. prime example: there's a convience store at a light i always get a false reading from on my commute and the V1 shows an arrow to the left and the counter shows 1. the other day the ahead arrow lit up and the counter showed 2. sure enough about 50 yards from the intersection there was a cop off on a side street speed trapping. also i have a buddy who works out of town and drives through alot of small towns where the local cops like to set up speed traps. his V1 has warned him countless times in the 2 years he's had his valentine 1.

Check out Rocky Mountain Radar. I have the Phazer II and it is awesome!! Their newest product is the RMR-C450 and for only $250 it is well worth it. It is a detector and scrambler in one. Their polilcy is if you get a ticket...they will pay it. Check it out here.

These radar scrambers/jammers don't work. A few really expensive ones do, but those are illegal. I'd say use the money spent on "scrambers" that have lesser dector qualities on a better radar detector.

Click this link for more scramber/jammber info/how they actually don't work: http://www.radarjammer.com/

Wow...guess I have just been getting lucky. Mine is only the scrambler and every time my detector goes off, my scrambler turns on and I have yet to get a ticket. I have everything hard wired to the car like you are supposed to though...there are four sensors for the scrambler that needs to be put on the outermost corners of the car. Since jammers/scramblers are illegal in Missouri...I have the box hidden in the dash so you can't tell it is there. The detector is also hidden where the clock used to be. The front detector sensor is in my left turn signal housing and the rear sensor is in my third brake light housing. The audio signal is hooked into the left tweeter by the mirror since I don't use those anymore.

i dunno if you have state police around you, but my neck of the woods they hardly ever use radar, closest is prolly the turn pike. they all vascar it, so no radar signals at all, just the nose of the cop car as you;re already about to drive across them lines.

$300 spent on a device to help you avoid tickets... 2 tickets at $150 a pop (most of my speeding ones are like $100) and the thing is paid for - not to mention if you miss a cop and get hit, you;re now out even more money.

i dont have a radar detector... however the one culpable has seems to work pretty nice.

V1 ftw, never heard of anyone who has one saying they wished there was something better. Expensive but you pay for what you get.

I too have a cobra, a 9530 if I remember correctly. Was around $200USD (based on current exchange rates) and works quite well for the price. Range could be better out the sides but otherwise great.

Lasers use really small beams so you have to be pretty lucky to detect it AND brake in time regardless of which detector you have.

i HAD a cobra and it did me well--I made it from Windsor, Ontario to Montreal, QC within 9 hours through rain + sun. then one day (when i came back) a cop decided to do a search and got lucky and reached his arm in and found it in my glove compartment (which he didn't have a warrant to search my car) but i got lucky as he took it away but didn't give me a ticket at all.
But i'm planning on getting valentine one next, and get the custom concealed display where i can mount right on my gauge cluster.

i have a cobra one. i don't really remember the model number but it has saved me many times. i'm not saying get a cheap one, but a 200 dollar cobra one will work just fine. you just have to understand how to 'read' them correctly. like here, the X frequency is only used by automatic doors, other radar detectors, and etc so you just ignore it when it beeps. the only time i have to worry is when it flashes K or Ka. and even then, no need to worry unless your indicator number jumps up from 1. alot of people don't realize that 80% of the time they go off its just a false alarm.

He didn't give you the ticket because he violated your constitutional rights. If you had the desire to, you could totally sue him AND get your detector back. (not saying you should though)

In my opinion this is by far the best options (and ive owned a valentine 1)

Bell RX75 Pro - http://www.beltronics.com/rx75plus.html
Blinder M45 - http://www.blinder.net/blinder_m45.htm

that cover both radar and laser biggrin.gif

Its not cheap but after avoiding 2 or 3 tickets you will have payed it off.

I know I could've reported him however, i don't think i would've gotten my detector back because it's illegal to own one in the first place. so i figured it would've costed more money to hire a lawyer and such and go through the trouble of everything. Besides he let me off a 400 dollar ticket, and i only paid 150 for the scanner, oh well.
But yes, i figured he totally jacked my detector and probably sold it back out on ebay or something.

I bet "Radar Roy" recieves some sort of compensation from BEL. That site is littered with BEL ads.
