if you can see the smoke, your dripping it onto somthing hot from somewhere.
its not just because your engine bay is hot.
and remember, burning oil CAN start a fire.
power wash your engine bay, and go from there.

you'd be better off locating and fixing the leak. mine did it because I had coolant leaking from my oil cooler lines which dripped onto my exhaust. and yes, it was quite a bit of smoke. Check those hoses on your car. I didn't heat wrap my stock ones and one melted through... I replaced the melted one and heat wrapped both and they still leaked though... maybe the other one melted too I just didn't see it.

Small update. Got some time to work on my car today, just some minor stuff. Re routed the oil lines, stupid me forgot the gasket on the DP last time I took everything apart., so I put that back in there, and changed the oil. 1st time starting it in a couple months since I de-catted it. Started up fine, idled perfectly and no leaks. Let it sit for a good 30 mins, then took it for a drive around my neighborhood. Don't have plates on it, so I couldn't really go too far. Let it sit for another 25 mins, then took it for another run, this time I got on it pretty good. De-catting it actually feels alot smoother than it did before. It pulls nice and hard with no hesitation. Finally came back and put it in my garage. The whole time it was running was probably a little over an hour, with no smoking at all from the engine. Don't know if it was my old coolant lines, or oil lines dripping onto my block, but there was ZERO smoke coming off my block today. Very happy today, wish I could actually take it for a real drive with plates. If this thing doesn't sell by the spring, I'm throwing some plates on it and taking it up to Boston with me for the spring and summer. Just wanted to give you all a quick update on it. 5k miles since boost and it's still pulling hard. smile.gif

Will, There was no way I was going to fit it, If I tried to put the cooler on the block, everything would have cleared fine, but the lines would have been kinked pretty badly. I don't have 90's on the lines, just straight fittings. Oh well, not a big deal, but thanks for the help.

Manny, I know, it felt so nice to drive today, I miss it lol. Hopefully I'll be able to make it out for a meet this year. Hopefully with everything painted and on.

So you are saying with 90s on the end of the lines you would be able to keep the oil cooler in its spot?

I can't say for sure since I didn't have 90's but I did some measurements and it looked like the oil cooler would clear the downpipe by a good 1/2 inch.

I never relocated my oil cooler (I had an ebay 3" downpipe) and it fit. the only thing is you need to install the oil filter relocation kit before the manifold/turbo/downpipe assembly is on... and if it leaks at all you need to pull it all back out... ask me how I know. but yes, one of my lines barely touched the downpipe. with a 45-degree or a 90-degree, it wouldn't have touched it.

Manny, is there a different placement on the 98+ blocks? Your mock up was on your old 94 motor right?

Thats interesting. I wonder what the difference was between the two besides the obvious Manny stated in his build thread.

it seems to me the base of the block that the oil cooler sits on is raised more on the 98 block VS the 94 block.
thats the only thing i could come up with as to why it wouldnt fit.
